Published author Andrea Murray joined CLP in June 2013!

Andrea Murray is a graduate of Arkansas State University where she earned a BSE in English and an MA in English, and she has been an educator for over sixteen years.  Though she currently teaches junior high language arts, she has taught just about every English-related subject possible, including elementary reading and college courses.  When she isn’t grading papers, she writes young adult science fiction and is the author of the Vivid trilogy.

Andrea lives with her husband of eighteen years in a town so small it’s barely a dot on the map.  If she isn’t reading, she’s chasing after her two children, watching bad sci-fi movies,  or  catching up on all her favorite reality television shows.

I am proud to be from the Heartland although I wish it would be warmer here.  I was born and raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and I am currently living with my husband, John.  I have three terrific children (2 sons and 1 daughter) who have all grown up and left the nest and I have one granddaughter who is currently 7 months old. I really was not too excited as my children left the house and made their way out into the world, even though they all live within 30 minutes of our home, as I missed their daily chatter and our interactions but I realized they needed to go.  I am so thankful for technology as text messaging and emails keeps them close by without long talks on the phone.  I have a BS in Education and a BBA in Accounting w/a CPA Certificate, and I am a part-time substitute teacher and part-time accountant.   I enjoy both jobs, as they give me the flexibility I want and some great challenges that I desire.   As a substitute, I enjoy the light-bulb moments the students have, our talks and opening their eyes to new ideas and experiences.  I am forever coming home with pockets full of Post-it notes with books titles that I should read as I listen to them express their favorite books to me and in return I get to tell them what great YA books I have come across that they should pick up, it’s great!

My love of reading has grown over the years and now I am just in love with reading.   I remember reading a few Judy Blume books when I was younger but reading became more meaningful as I read to my children as they were growing up.  With my youngest son, we used to read chapter books on long car rides and I think I enjoyed those books just as much as he did.  Crispin and the Cirque Du Freak books will forever hold a place in my heart.  Currently, I read just about anything that looks good except for Harlequin romance books with YA titles being my favorite.  Last year I read 142 books (according to Goodreads) and that is not including all the monthly magazines that I subscribe to also.  I also love to garden, bike ride, kayak, hang out with friends and family, cook, check out Pinterest, and just being outside enjoying the sun.

I am excited to be part of Chicklitplus and I hope you enjoy my reviews.

I was born on Cape Cod, where I lived for half of my childhood, until my family relocated to South Florida.  I’m a graduate of the University of South Florida, where I earned a BS in Accounting and Florida Atlantic University, where I earned a Masters of Accounting.  Once upon a time, I was also a CPA.  It only took me five years of working in Corporate America to conclude I wasn’t a fan of accounting!  I gave up the career to be a stay at home.   I’m married and the mother of four crazy children (which they get it from me).  Reading and writing are my escape from reality, my therapy and my passion.  I write for a local magazine, My Forsyth, and my blog,

There’s something magical about a book, isn’t there? Leaving your own life for a little while to take a walk through someone else’s? Yes, please! Whether reading them or writing them, books are my thang and I love them so much. Well, books and coffee. And guacamole. And hot showers. But I digress.

From fun and fresh to dripping with hidden lessons, I love reading and reviewing stories that make me look at the world a little differently. At life, at love, at feelings, at viewpoints. If a book can jar me out of my own thinking for a bit, that’s a winner to me!

Not surprisingly, I love to write as much as I love to read. In fact, my debut Chick Lit/Women’s Fiction/Romantic Comedy novel is due out from Marching Ink in Spring 2016. I couldn’t be more excited to check off Bucket List Item #1 and join the ranks of other published authors who have shared pieces of themselves — through their characters — with the world.  What an honor.

I can also be found blogging and reviewing at my own blog,, and putting my Marketing degree to good use by writing marketing and advertising copy for businesses and entrepreneurs. Yes, I write in lots of different ways and in lots of different places, but they all have one thing in common  … the beautiful and timeless art of storytelling.

Thanks for taking the time to get to know me. I’m thrilled to be part of the Chick Lit Plus Review Team and can’t wait to read incredible stories from amazingly brave and talented authors, and then share them with YOU so that you get a peek into that world, too!

Life is a story. Make yours a best seller.
