The books starts with a tribute to Roz Annie’s sister as she and Carl- Roz’s best friend as well as Annie’s after her sister’s death reminisce over all their memories of the sister and friend gone too soon.  Annie even though dreadfully unhappy in most parts of her life seems determined to marry her long time steady live in boyfriend and do the dreaded hours at the job she hates. Until one day as if sent a message from her sister herself, she has a brilliant idea. She buys herself a one way ticket to Greece, dumps her boyfriend and quits her job, and so along with her entertaining sidekick Carl she starts the adventure of her life.

She travels to Greece to places she knew she sister had one day hoped to go and reflected on her life. Planned into their travels was to stop into see her sister’s pen pal Kas and the Bikakis family. It was during her stay here that she truly started to enjoy life again. And this is where she became her own Shirley.

Being Shirley is a story about finding your inner-self…about more than just existing, but truly living. Annie’s story is a story about how fun life can be when you allow it to be an adventure, and what an amazing adventure hers is!
