Book Review: The Secret of Happy Ever After by Lucy Dillon

happy ever afterI received a copy of The Secret of Happy Ever After by Lucy Dillon in exchange for an honest review.

This book begins by introducing us to Michelle, who is a stern business woman, making a fresh start in a new town … and who doesn’t believe in fairytales. She decides on a whim to take over a neglected book shop and decides that it is perfect for her. Plus, she also knows the perfect manager, Anna. Anna is a book lover and knows that this will be an great escape from her three step-children and their dog. Anna believes in fairytales but knows that her life has ended up far from a happy ending. But together, the two of them transform the book store and the city slowly falls under its spell. But, when Michelle’s past catches up to her and trouble strikes at home for Anna, can they still weave out a way to find their happy ever after?

To be honest, it has been a while since I have found such a heartwarming and honest book like this. Lucy does such an amazing job at creating such flawed yet absolutely beautiful characters and I knew from the get go that this book was going to be great. The book begins with a great opening and within the first chapter you get a feel for the wonderful story telling that the author possesses. I was often moved to tears and then sometimes I was over joyed with what was going on during the book. I read this book in one sitting on a rainy night with a glass of wine and it was perfect to curl up with. I highly recommend this book and think that it might be a contender for best book of 2013. Such a wonderful, heart felt story that has real magic. Also, such an adorable book cover!
