Book Review: The New Mrs. D by Heather Hill

Reviewer: Annie

the new mrs dI received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Watch out Jane Green and Helen Fielding; there is a new novelist from your side of the pond!  I know Jane Green left England to live in Connecticut, USA, but; her first batch of books ring true to Heather Hill’s writing style. English writers that stick to their British adjectives, verbs and nouns, make a story so much more fantastic to read, at least for me.  Solely, because I find things like “sod-off” more entertaining than our term for “said” statement…that I cannot write about without being bleeped!

“The New Mrs. D” was so much fun and quick-witted to read….there was hardly a page in this novel that I did not have laugh out loud or at least giggly moments.  This is my Call Sign to a great review, and recommendation for others to read this book.

Bernice and David Dando get married after being together for six years.  They are on the fourth day of their honeymoon in Greece, and have not had sex yet!  Bernice, nicknamed “Binnie” by her husband, have registered for various excursions from artwork to scuba diving while on their honeymoon.

Binnie discovers that her husband is still looking at porn, as she is dressing in serious “Sex-David-Up” lingerie; and flash forward, she seems to be on her way to a second divorce. After every excuse he can throw at her to explain is wonton need for porn…she kicks him out.   Will she go back to England, or stay in Greece to assert her independence.  Can she get through this muddled part of her life with any dignity?  How long will she have to hide behind “cloudy” Facebook posts, etc.?

This book is full of humor, humility, and self-love being unearthed.  Such a fun way to suggest, that we all may need a “Honeymoon for One!

My flip-flop love will never be the same.  Who knew they could be weapons of mass destruction, or at least can be used as an attempt of mass destruction.

Perfect Beach Bag Book!

Samantha, as a debut self-published novelist with across the board publisher rejections, I have to say I come to read my reviews with a hand across my eyes peeking through the fingers because I’m never sure what the reaction to The New Mrs D will be. This is wonderful. A huge thank you to you for agreeing to read my book and affording me your time and a space on your site. You’ve really made my day 🙂
