Holly Gracin, a fledgling writer in Los Angeles, stumbles into what could be the gig of a lifetime—writing a young starlet’s tell-all “autobiography”—but soon discovers the secrets lurking behind tween icon Daisy May Dixson’s squeaky clean public image.

Holly is on the verge of moving back home to upstate New York after Westside Weekly, a wanna-be People magazine, folds and takes her job of reviewing already-released films along with it. Unemployed and languishing in her rundown apartment, with only junk food and an ornery cat to keep her company, she is ecstatic when she is unexpectedly hired to write Daisy’s memoir, charting the enormously popular 18-year-old’s rise to blockbuster movie and pop music fame.

Never one of the “cool kids,” Holly always wanted to be part of the in-crowd. Suddenly she’s inches from the limelight, shadowing Daisy as she travels around the world on yachts, attends the hottest Hollywood clubs, hobnobs with gorgeous men, and sneaks out of five-star hotels in the dead of night—with the paparazzi never far behind.

While Holly struggles to write a flattering portrait of a teenage millionaire who only eats “nightshades” and treats her employees like servants, Daisy is publicly busted for drugs, jeopardizing the careers of all who work for her. The memoir suddenly becomes the cornerstone of redeeming her tattered image—and everyone in Daisy’s entourage who’ve treated Holly badly now desperately need her help. But trailing after a pop star 24/7 has taken its toll, and Holly must decide if becoming the ultimate insider is worth losing a starring role in her own life.
