We just know something terrible is about to happen. Jo Miles is living life, married to her husband of ten years and their two children, enjoying her part time job as an interior designer and long chat sessions with her best friend Rosie. Something has to go wrong, right? When her husband Jeff comes home one night and lets her know that he has been having an affair for the past six months and cannot see himself living without Candy, we know that disaster has hit. Candy is the “Cliché” according to Jo, the tight, toned, blonde 23-year old secretary of Jeff’s. Jo feels incredibly old and saggy, and doesn’t think she can date again.
But she quickly has four men with eyes for her, and she has some deciding to do. There is Sean, a sexy steamy cameraman who purposely put his car into Jo’s just to meet her. Sean takes care of Jo’s sex drive, with their wild romps being the main focus of the fling. Then there is Martin, a millionaire who happens to be a record executive, whom Jo meets when she designs his house. Martin is mature and stable, and ready to make a mate out of Jo, even taking her and the kids backstage at a Brittney Spear’s concert. There is also Connor, her younger brother’s best friend who has been in Jo’s life for years. He proves to be an excellent friend in her troubled time, keeping Jo company and taking the children out when Jo is not up for it. Jo is shocked to learn that he has been crushing on her for years, never letting on because of her marriage. And who is the fourth mate? Of course it is Jeff, who has realized that Candy is nothing more than a fling and that he desperately wants his wife and children back.
Though we know who Jo should end up with, Fourplay from Jane Moore is a page turner, getting readers caught up in Jo’s suddenly wild world as she tries to decide whom she should pick. The writing is funny, edgy, and a bit sinful, making even the oldest cliché’s come alive with a passion.

Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin is an incredibly relatable chick lit novel. Rachel, our lovable main gal pal, is an attorney living in Manhattan, enjoying cosmos and shopping excursions with her best friend of countless years, Darcy. Until the night of her thirtieth birthday, when Rachel is horrified to not only kiss Darcy’s handsome fiancée at her birthday party (thrown by none other than BFF Darcy), but actually sleep with him- and continue the affair. Follow as Rachel leads a double life, one as a doting best friend and maid of honor to Darcy, and the other as the scandalous ‘other women.’ Darcy’s wedding date creeps closer and closer, and still Rachel trudges on with her unfaithfulness, with a few close calls thrown in that stops your heart as your eyes keep reading.
Be surprised as some shocking twists are thrown in, involving parents, co-workers, and another couple of cheaters. You will find yourself tearing up at parts, nodding your head because the scenes are so alive, and wanting to call your best friend and promise her you’ll never pull a Rachel. Giffin’s debut novel is a gem, and Something Borrowed paves the way for many more great stories surrounding these phenomenally written characters.
