#BookReview: Blood & Water by Katie O’Rourke

blood and waterThis was the first novel I read from Katie O’Rourke, and I’ll be sure Blood & Water is not the last. At first I started to worry about how well I could connect with the story, since we do get to follow five different characters and get their POVs. Sometimes too many characters and their insight causes me to have a disconnect with the story, but I was happy to say that I could jump from one character to another without any issue, and still highly enjoyed this story. We have Delilah, who is running away from her problems to her big brother’s house in Tucson, Arizona. Her brother David is a single father, trying his best to raise his high school daughter by himself. David’s friend Tim and his girlfriend Sarah also lend us their point of views, and a look at their unique relationship. And then finally we have Ally, best friends to Sarah who is trying to raise her family amidst many complications. Each story intertwines in a way that makes sense to the next one, and I kept fully engaged throughout the book.

A story focused very much on family, as the synopsis states “the one you’re born into, the one you choose and the one you create.” Katie O’Rourke builds up a story that is fast-moving, heart-warming, emotional, and pleasing to this reader. The ending was so interesting when we got little tidbits of what the future was holding for some of the characters and I appreciated that touch. Blood & Water is an emotionally engaging story and one I would recommend for women’s fiction readers.

End of Summer Beauty Blog Sale!

sale

Welcome to my first beauty blog sale! I’ve been inspired by some of my friends in the beauty community to declutter my makeup collection and put for sale some of my lightly used makeup. All the makeup in the blog sale are items I purchased myself, and everything will be cleaned and sanitized on my end before sending out. Please read instructions below, everything should be in those details if you have questions!

I will only be shipping to the US at this time. There will be a flat rate of $5 per order, with a minimum order of $15.

All sales are final. I will list in the description the shade, if it’s been worn or only swatched, and approximately how many uses it has gone through to help give you full details of what you are purchasing.

All sales will be through PayPal only. I will send an invoice via PayPal, and invoice must be paid within 24 hours or else I will move on to the next buyer.

Once payment and shipping information is received, the order will be shipped within 3 business days.

I will ship via USPS and email buyer with the tracking number. Everything will be packaged and wrapped securely, but I will not be responsible for lost/damaged items. If you would like to add extra insurance to your package, that will be at buyer’s cost.

Please email me at Samantha@chicklitplus.com with the items you would like to purchase, and also your shipping information and PayPal email address. Once an item has been requested and invoiced, I will mark the item as Pending on the blog, and once payment is received it will be marked as Sold and remove from the blog after it has been shipped. If an item doesn’t say pending or sold, it is still available to purchase.

I have recently done a lipstick, brush and general makeup declutter. Please be aware that items such as liquid lipsticks cannot be sanitized, as the wand is going back into the tube/product. I’ve spoken with several people on this topic and many would still like to see lipsticks included in the sale, but I want to point out that these cannot be sanitized. It is your decision if you would like to purchase those products.

Orders over $50 will ship free. Orders over $75 will include one free gift and orders over $100 will include two free gifts. Typically these gifts will be PR items that are lightly used/swatched but will not be available to purchase. Occasionally products will be brand new and that I have bought myself.

I have a new lipstick declutter and general makeup declutter coming soon, and will add to this page as those videos go live on my Youtube channel. Follow me on Snapchat (Samantha.March) or Twitter (BySamanthaMarch) for updates.

cranberryI love your cover! Can you tell us who created it and how much input you had?

A wonderful designer call Emma Rogers designed it and then the team at Bonnier added tons of glitter. When i first spoke to Bonnier, I told them it was my dream to see my book on shelves covered in glitter and Bonnier absolutely delivered.

How important do you think social media is for authors these days?

I think it’s very important, it allows the readers to be able to talk with authors and have an instant connection with them. I love being able to talk with readers and bloggers
