wicked for hireAbout the Book

Medical student Amanda Meyers thought she had her life all planned out until people started dying the moment they touched her. Being cleared of any wrongdoing didn’t stop the medical school from expelling her, and it didn’t rid her of the unfortunate nickname Grim Reaper.

Luckily, having a rep as the harbinger of death isn’t a total resume killer. Rick Rowling, Special Agent for the FBI’s Paranormal Cases Division recruits her to work for the Bureau. But the sexy, brilliant, outrageous loose cannon proves to be just as untouchable as the mysterious creature or creatures that may be responsible for the seemingly unsolvable murder that becomes their first case together.

Instead of treating patients, Amanda’s life becomes a test of her patience and a wild ride into the wicked paranormal world where her new boss runs the show. Together they face a ghoulish force that could destroy the entire city and a grueling family dinner that could leave Amanda contemplating harakiri.

It’s a battle of life and debt [student debt, that is] and saving the world has never been so funny.

#BookReview: Love Pixies by Carol Maloney Scott

lovepixiesAbout the Book

For three lifelong best friends, a college graduation trip to Ireland is supposed to be their last hurrah before starting their jobs, and taking on the stresses and responsibilities of adult life. Heather, Tiffany, and Amanda are on a mission to turn the Emerald Isle upside down…or at least wreak a little havoc, drink a wee bit too much, and kiss hunky Irish boys…before returning to their hometown of Chicago.

When Rhiannon, a powerful fairy, pays a surprise visit to their adorable, thatched-roof rental cottage in County Clare, and persuades them to sign one-year Love Pixie contracts, their lives are drastically altered. Newly armed with fantastical superpowers, charmed necklaces, and the ability to turn ordinary substances into enchanted pixie dust, the girls join together to fight ‘love crime’ and help assigned couples on the brink of disaster build bridges back to happiness. It all sounds quite exciting, until they realize that learning how to use powerful magic is not only time consuming, overwhelming, and confusing – it’s not easy to hide from their family, co-workers, and most importantly – potential love interests.

To complicate matters even more, the trio is repeatedly tempted by the fairy’s rebellious sister, Aideen, who challenges them to break the rules. Perhaps if they listen to the ‘bad fairy’ they can finish their assignment quicker…and get back to work…and play…before anyone is the wiser.

However, the girls were raised to know that there are consequences to bad behavior – at least in the non-magical world. Afraid to ask if there is such a thing as magical jail, the two more sensible Pixies hope to rein in their most wayward partner – before their contracts are terminated…and their couple’s relationship implodes into a pile of ordinary dust.

Review

One aspect I really enjoy while reading is magical realism, so I was quite tickled when a fairy appeared in the beginning to give the friends powers. It was so fun watching as they tried to understand how their life just changed, how to use their powers and how to try to remain normal after their life changed so drastically. The three girls were all so different in personality yet had been friends forever, and I thought each one was interesting to read about. There’s definitely a lot of content in here so sometimes it could feel a bit rushed, but I still enjoyed the writing style and wanted to see how the ending would come about!

#BookReview: Searching For Sarah by Julieann Dove

searching for sarahAbout the Book

Sarah Keller is convinced that her Mr. Right is stuck in traffic…in another country…on another planet. ‘Thirty-one and still single’ isn’t how she wants to be introduced by her dad. That’s why she’s on five dating websites, posing as anything from an avid gardener to a crazed thrill seeker.

Sam Turner is a single dad, workaholic, who owns his own company. Long-term relationships have never worked out for him. That’s why he needs a nanny.

When a mutual friend suggests Sarah take the job temporarily, everything changes for them both. Sarah begins falling for the man who meets almost none of her online criteria. And when strange things start happening—things that jeopardize the safety of Sarah, Sam is the last person she would imagine is hiding something.

My Review

Oh my did I end up really loving this book! I thought the beginning hooked me so easily, and I loved following Sarah Keller and her searching-for-Mr.Right-ways. She was so likeable yet with several flaws, which made her easier to relate to. The romance that begins to brew between her and Sam Turner had me so curious. They are two very different people, but I felt the sparks leaping from the page. Things almost got a little rushed for me toward the end until … the plot twist. Oh my word did I not see that coming! And now I am itching to get my hands on book two in this series! Highly recommend Searching For Sarah for women’s fiction fans!
