CLP Blog Tours Book Review: After Math by Denise Grover …

Denise Grover Swank is now on tour with CLP Blog Tours and After Math
Summary:
Scarlett Goodwin’s world is divided into Before and After.

Before she agreed to tutor Tucker Price, college junior Scarlett was introvert, struggling with her social anxiety disorder and determined to not end up living in a trailer park like her mother and her younger sister. A mathematics major, she goes to her classes, to her job in the tutoring lab, and then hides in the apartment she shares with her friend, Caroline.

After junior Tucker Price, Southern University’s star soccer player enters the equation, her carefully plotted life is thrown off its axis. Tucker’s failing his required College Algebra class. With his eligibility is at risk, the university chancellor dangles an expensive piece of computer software for the math department if Scarlett agrees to privately tutor him. Tucker’s bad boy, womanizer reputation makes Scarlett wary of any contact, let alone spending several hours a week in close proximity.

But from her first encounter, she realizes Tucker isn’t the person everyone else sees. He carries a mountain of secrets which she suspects hold the reason to his self-destructive behavior. But the deeper she delves into the cause of his pain, the deeper she gets sucked into his chaos. Will Scarlett find the happiness she’s looking for, or will she be caught in Tucker’s aftermath?
Review:
Denise Grover Swank became a favorite author of mine from the first book I read by her, Twenty-Eight and Half Wishes. I highly recommend all of her books, and if you haven’t read anything from her yet – you are missing out! While After Math wasn’t a favorite of mine, it was still a good book. The writing is flawless as usual, the characters have depth and keep the story interesting, and it just feels unique. I love that Scarlett was a math major, and Tucker’s back story was also interesting to read about. While it is a good girl falls for bad boy type of plot, there’s just something about her books that makes me feel like I’m reading about a subject for the first time. One to check out!

Twenty-Nine and a Half Reasons by Denise Grover Swank

I adored Denise Grover Swank’s debut novel Twenty-Eight and a Half Wishes and being introduced to Rose Gardner. Fabulous book, fabulous author. I was really looking forward to the sequel, Twenty-Nine and a Half Reasons, and there was no disappointment here! It was great to pick up right back into Rose’s life – her new and improved life at that! After the murder of her mom in the first book, Rose now has more independence – and a hot boyfriend in the state detective Joe. Two things are still the same – her crappy job at the DMV, and her history for getting involved in murders. Now being summoned for jury duty has put Rose front in center of the latest mystery case – one where she has a vision of who the murderer is. And it’s definitely not the man on the stand being accused of the crime. Rose knows she can’t come forward with her vision as evidence, so she takes it upon herself to clear the accuser’s name, find the real murderer, and somehow keep her relationship with Joe intact, find a way to make her happy with her relationship choices, and not get fired from her job. Figuring out her priorities is a must – and Rose knows just who tops that list.
Again – great fun catching up with Rose, and seeing how she had grown so much from the first book. She was a shy, timid girl completely under her mother’s spell, and now she was more of a woman, making decisions and living a grown-up life with Joe. I enjoyed the difficult love quandary she got involved in as well – deciding how to continue her relationship with Joe, the interactions with the assistant DA Mason Deveraux, and the blind date her sister puts her up to. I was also thrilled to see there will be a third installment, and I cannot wait for that to get here! The Rose Gardner series and Denise Grover Swank are both musts for you to check out!

Chosen by Denise Grover Swank

I am a big fan of chick lit (no, really!) but every once in awhile I like to dip into another genre. When Denise Grover Swank questioned me about CLP Blog Tours being a good fit for her second novel––the paranormal romance Chosen––I immediately jumped at the chance. Denise impressed me on a whole new level when I read her debut Twenty-Eight and a Half Wishes for her first blog tour go-round. Not surprisingly, my other bloggers jumped at the chance to host her again––even those who don’t normally go for paranormal reads. So how did Denise do with Chosen?
Stellar! Another page-turner that had me biting my nails and desperately clicking the ‘next’ page on my Kindle. Emma Thompson and her five-year-old son Jake have been on the run from bad men for years. Though Emma isn’t positive what these men want with her son, she knows it has to do with Jake’s ability to see into the future. While on the run, Emma meets Will, who offers to help her escape. Little does Emma know that Will is actually on the job––he is a mercenary who has been given orders to capture Emma. Chosen is full of twists and turns and gasping and heart-breaking and blushing moments. The paranormal/fantasy aspect of Jake seeing in the future and the tattoos that mysteriously appear on Emma and Will are well written and flow with precision. I was on my seat almost the entire time reading this, and the cliff hanger ending will leave you wanting to yell at Denise to hurry up with book number two! Another five star review for a Denise Grover Swank novel, who clearly shows her writing skills and ability to work with multiple genres.

Synopsis: “It all started when I saw myself dead.” For Rose Gardner, working at the DMV on a Friday afternoon is bad even before she sees a vision of herself dead. She’s had plenty of visions, usually boring ones like someone’s toilet’s overflowed, but she’s never seen one of herself before. When her overbearing momma winds up murdered on her sofa instead, two things are certain: There isn’t enough hydrogen peroxide in the state of Arkansas to get that stain out, and Rose is the prime suspect. Rose realizes she’s wasted twenty-four years of living and makes a list on the back of a Wal-Mart receipt: twenty-eight things she wants to accomplish before her vision comes true. She’s well on her way with the help of her next door neighbor Joe, who has no trouble teaching Rose the rules of drinking, but won’t help with number fifteen– do more with a man. Joe’s new to town, but it doesn’t take a vision for Rose to realize he’s got plenty secrets of his own. Somebody thinks Rose has something they want and they’ll do anything to get it. Her house is broken into, someone else she knows is murdered, and suddenly, dying a virgin in the Fenton County jail isn’t her biggest worry after all.

Synopsis: Lucky runs a high profile casino and hotel complex, The Keys in Vegas.
Lennie, her movie star husband, is still writing and directing successful independent movies, while Max, her stubborn and gorgeous teenage daughter is about to celebrate her 18th birthday, and her son, Bobby, owns a string of hot clubs. Lucky has everything. Family. Love. Life.
And everything is exactly what billionaire businessman Armand Jordan is determined to take from her one way or the other.
Born a Prince in the small but affluent Middle Eastern country of Akramshar, Armand comes to America with his American mother at an early age, and rises to become a real estate business titan. Armand regards women as nothing more than breeding mares or sexual playthings, so when his people inform him that the one property he covets more than anything, The Keys, is not for sale, he is shocked. That a mere woman would dare to turn down his offer to buy The Keys is unthinkable, and Armand vows to force Lucky’s hand whatever it takes. And so the battle for power begins . . .
Meanwhile Bobby is dealing with shady Russian investors, while his girlfriend—smart and independent Denver Jones—is becoming a Deputy D.A. in the L.A. drug unit.
And Max, Bobby’s seventeen year old sister, is busy embarking on a forbidden affair with a sexy young movie star. An affair they have to keep on the down-low lest Lucky finds out.
