8 Healthy Habits to Kick Start Your 2023

2023 is well underway, and I wanted to write about one of my favorite things: healthy habits and goal setting.  These healthy habits I am going to highlight today can be started now and continued all throughout the year.

I have a full video on Youtube with 23 healthy habits – and while that  might seem a little overwhelming, I am a big believer in breaking things down into smaller, actionable steps that are easily achievable.  If you do need a little extra umph, or kick to get started, there is a free download on bysamanthamarch.com to keep you motivated in 2023, and here are some ideas to get you started.

  1. Choose a word of the month.
This is always one of my favorite things to do at the start of each month. I choose a word that will be my focus, and something that I can continually come back to. In January, my favorite word has been “anti-grind” over the past few years; I am extremely busy in December with Vlogmas, where I upload daily to Youtube as well as daily to Instagram.

Just as a small business owner, and all of the year-end sales, I find myself incredibly booked with meetings and planning year-end projects, along with all of the holiday shenanigans…. and it really drains me. January is my time to relax, recharge…maybe book a vacation or focus on some self-care.

January is my slow down period.
  2. Be mindful of what you consume.
In early 2023, I started a second channel solely focused on healthy habits, and changing your life. In my first video for that channel, I did mention that one of the ways I changed my life, my mindset, was by being mindful about what I consumed on a daily basis. I’d turn off my tv, put down my phone, and only consume content that was beneficial to me and helped lift me up.

I love listening to podcasts from successful women-owned business entrepreneurs instead of tuning into the drama channels on Youtube. And by changing what I consumed, my entire mindset has changed. We have all of this content at our fingertips, and it is up to us and what we choose to consume.
  1. Movement Daily.
Movement can come in many different forms; your job, working out, taking walks etc. I am someone who loves fitness such as Yoga and Pilates, and it is something fun for me to do. But I have friends who do movement through other activities such as golf, basketball, dance, etc. One movement that I do daily, and have incorporated into my daily routine is morning walks with my dog, Aries.

Aries is always ready to for the “w” – word.

Finding the best way to incorporate movement into your daily routine will make for a healthier, happier you.
  2. Get outside.
Whether you’re exercising or just enjoying a book outdoors, there are so many benefits to doing them outside. Once thing I love doing is sitting outside with a good book and reading; I enjoy our time outdoors.

The simplicity of being in nature definitely has huge impacts on my mood, and also my mental health.

I know that some days, or seasons, the climate makes it hard to actually get outside. Even if you aim for a handful of times a week to go outside and take in the fresh air, then it can be very beneficial.
  1. Consume what inspires you.
Try to pinpoint what brings you inspiration or motivation. Maybe it’s a genre of books, an instagram account, a podcast that motivates and inspires you.

Give more energy to what brings you energy.
  1. Clean and organize.
I once heard that a creative person is “typically surrounded by clutter” and I held on to that for years, justifying it for myself. But, the more clutter that is around, the more cluttered my mind feels. Incorporating an organized, clean environment helps with your mental health.

Assign portions of your day to decluttering or cleaning parts of your home. This can be little things. Sometimes, my daily routine is just cleaning my stove, or my kitchen counters, or even tackling my laundry pile. But tackling one simple thing a day can help you achieve long term organizational and cleaning goals. Plan a time each month for larger declutters or organizational cleaning sessions; create a list with a different area of focus monthly and that will help keep you on track.
  1. Do something daring.
This is something new I added for myself, for 2023. It’s inspired by the book series I am currently writing; The Six Series. I currently have four books published from this series and in the latest book, Breely, the characters all come up with something daring they want to do in that year.

What does daring mean to you? Is it something physical like jumping out of a plane. Is it something personal like starting a side hustle, or taking a trip alone, or even taking bigger steps to really changing your life?

During this time of daring, it really is the perfect time to journal. What is daring? What does it mean to you? And then give yourself a goal for how you’ll achieve that.
  1. Create a morning and night routine.
Start small and start focusing on little ways to incorporate good habits such as:

Refraining from screen time in the morning and creating a mini-self care, skincare routine.
Sitting down and enjoying a relaxing cup of tea before bed.

Start to stack these habits, and before you know it, you will have both a night and morning routine. I personally feel like a night routine is what can really set you up for a great morning.
