Summer Nights by Allie Spencer follows Flora Fielding, who has been dumped on the one day of the year that should be safe territory, her birthday. Shaken and alone with nowhere else to go, Flora turns to her cousin Bella who is a nurse in San Francisco. Turns out, Bella isn’t quite who Flora thinks she is .. but that definitely makes things interesting. She is thrown into a tense Battle of the Tribute Bands, and pursued by a local computer guru who is a tad bit on the geeky side. But, with everything going on, she wouldn’t trade it for a second. Was getting dumped on her birthday the best thing that could have ever happened to her? Quite possibly.
I took this book with me when the husband and I headed out of town for a weekend retreat, and spent my days perched on the riverside, deeply engrossed in reading. This book is absolutely fantastic and I had such a fun time getting to know the characters and being a part of their kooky adventures. When I read the back cover of the book, I thought it would be stereotypical at best and honestly didn’t expect much, but I was pleasantly surprised. Just when things seem like they couldn’t get any worse for Flora is when the book really starts to pick up and stand out. Summer Nights is fast paced, exciting, unpredictable and full of suspense that will keep you on your heels. Definitely one of my favorite books so far this summer.
