OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAJane Frank’s New Year’s Resolutions

Happy New Year!  It is custom at the beginning of a new year for people to draft a list of resolutions they would like to adhere to that year.  These often include going to the gym more, losing weight or other self-improvement goals like being kinder to strangers (or in some cases to annoying or difficult family members/colleagues).  In most cases, people give up on their resolutions by the end of January, just in time to pig out on wings and chips at Super Bowl parties and fight with those who are loyal to the “wrong” team.  My resolutions are kind of boring as I have the same ones almost every year, for example, trying not to internalize everything or take things too personally and resolving to write more often.

Rather than bore you with more of my own resolutions for 2013, Jane Frank graciously agreed to share her New Year’s resolutions for 2013 with you instead.

Jane, take it away!

  1. I will devote at least two hours a night to studying for the LSAT.  An hour would be OK too.  And on really busy days, at least a half hour.  At least five times a week.
  2. I will do more lower body weights at the gym to tone my ass, legs and thighs so that by the end of the year, I will never have to hear my mother encourage me to wear slimming black pants again.
  3. a state of janeI will find a way to turn tidying up the apartment into a drinking game so that maybe Lainie will do her share of the work.
  4. I will finally organize all of my recipes into a scrapbook.  I am a year behind schedule on this one already and it’s killing me.
  5. I will stop hanging out with Bethany on week nights, especially when I have a deadline the next day or a mandatory paralegal meeting at 9am.  She’s a bad influence and apparently librarians can be more productive at work with a hangover than paralegals!  Exceptions to this resolution are available if I had a particularly bad day at work or Bethany is going someplace really cool.
  6. I will learn to spot a flake before I sleep with him or otherwise waste too much time.
  7. I will be nicer to ex-boyfriend Bob’s current girlfriend, otherwise known as “rebound girl.”  Even when she is being her typical beady-eyed bitchy self!  If he likes her, she can’t be that bad. *sigh*
  8. I will take Claire’s advice without getting so defensive.  As the older sister, she might actually have some wisdom to bestow.  If the advice is baseless, which it usually is, I will just pretend to listen and nod my head all the while daydreaming about that cute guy in my spin class.
  9. I will stop sharing all the personal details of my life with Andrew. He’s my officemate, not my shrink.
  10. I will meet “the one”, he will be everything I ever dreamed about and more and I will not need to stray from my plan of having my first baby by 32.  I will still be behind schedule by two years but if I make partner a couple of years ahead of schedule, it will all even itself out in the end.

What a fun idea, and I definitely would like to read the book now.
I would think, that by turning cleaning into a drinking game, the dust will very quickly cease to matter.

I knew this would be a fabulous post! As I read through the list I was thinking, “Oh, this one’s my favorite. No, wait. This one’s my favorite.” All the way down. Love that Jane Frank. 🙂
