Prancing Around With Sleeping Beauty by Stacy Juba had me by the title. I’m a Disney princess fanatic (and I have the Halloween costumes to prove it, and not just as a little girl) so I was looking forward to hearing the story of Rory Callahan – named after Aurora AKA Sleeping Beauty. I didn’t realize it going into the novel that this is actually the second book in the A Storybook Valley series, but it just took me a couple of chapters to head to Amazon to verify this was indeed in a series. It didn’t hinder much for me, though there was definitely a lot of back story shared throughout, which possibly could be distracting if you have read the first book. Sometimes this particular story seemed hard to keep moving forward, when so much of the past was continually being brought into the present.
Regardless of that, I did enjoy the story. There was a sweet romance between dance instructor Rory and Kyle – who happens to be the grandson of her family’s archrivals. Rory has the difficult decision of pursing a relationship or causing strain to her family, and adding in the fact that she has a boyfriend upon meeting Kyle adds another wrinkle to her romance. Nothing ever gets particularly deep in the story, except a quick scene at the end between Rory and her grandfather that added tension to the plot, but overall I thought it was short and sweet romance that I found fulfilling to read and would recommend if you are looking for a light romance with a Disney twist.
