I have read past titles from Nikki LeClair and enjoy her creations, so I was looking forward to Reuniting Reality. Chick lit plus a reality TV show – I am there! Our main character is Julie Duncan, who once had it all. A solid career, a loving husband, great friends … until everything imploded. She lost both her husband and her best friend, and her career is barely hanging on by a thread. But she gets the chance to redeem herself and possibly win her best friend back by doing another reality show. Jaded after being burned so badly on TV and having the public opinion of her tank after the first show, Julie is hesitant to sign on. But broke and basically out of options, she has to agree.
Enter her ex-husband and his new wife – the woman he cheated on her with – an old friend that helped instigate her ex’s affair, her moody ex-best friend, a made-up boyfriend that actually appears, and a whole lot of made-for TV drama. It’s only seven days though so it should be easy to keep calm and keep her appearances when the cameras are around – right?
Reuniting Reality was such a hoot to read. It seemed each chapter was bringing another obstacle to Julie, and most of them ended comically. I loved the reality show angle to it and all the behind scenes we got in the story as well. It was a sweet story about second chances and redeeming yourself, and my only complaint is the ending was a little rushed on the romantic side for me. Other than that, I had a great time with this one, laughed plenty, and would highly recommend!
