About the Book
There’s nothing unusual about a new family moving in at 91 Trinity Avenue. Except it’s her house. And she didn’t sell it.
When Fiona Lawson comes home to find strangers moving into her house, she’s sure there’s been a mistake. She and her estranged husband, Bram, have a modern coparenting arrangement: bird’s nest custody, where each parent spends a few nights a week with their two sons at the prized family home to maintain stability for their children. But the system built to protect their family ends up putting them in terrible jeopardy. In a domino effect of crimes and misdemeanors, the nest comes tumbling down.
Now Bram has disappeared and so have Fiona’s children. As events spiral well beyond her control, Fiona will discover just how many lies her husband was weaving and how little they truly knew each other. But Bram’s not the only one with things to hide, and some secrets are best kept to oneself, safe as houses.
My Review
Our House is a domestic thriller that will pull you into its clutches right away. Told in alternating point of views from Fi and Bram, we start to unfold the story of marital drama and how choices made by both parties have a ripple effect. Bram is definitely more the villain of the book, and a highly unlikeable character in my opinion. Fi, while a bit of a pushover – especially when it comes to Bram – came across as a caring wife, mother and friend, and all around good person. It was a bit chilling to see all the storylines unfold, and I really don’t want to give too much away in my review, because every few chapters I felt another shock as we uncovered a new plot twist. I felt like I kept waiting for that big twist though, that ah ha moment because I definitely felt the story got laggy at times. Toward the end though, there is a lot happening and we do get that big ah ha moment with the final plot twist – right at the close of the story. I don’t think this story is for everyone, but it’s extremely interesting and sure makes you wonder how well you think you know those closest to you.
The way you describe it makes it sound like an interesting read. “A bit chilling.” I’ll have to put it on my TBR list.
