Book Review: The Paid Bridesmaid by Sariah Wilson

About the Book

From Sariah Wilson, the bestselling author of Roommaid, comes a captivating romantic comedy about what happens when a wedding party mixes business with romance.

Rachel Vinson is a bridesmaid for hire: part confidante, part wedding planner, and one hundred percent pretend BFF. Discretion guaranteed. Her next gig is a destination wedding—livestreamed and sponsored—for an Instagram influencer. That means a paradise of new contacts, which could be a boon to her already booming business. If Rachel can keep the very handsome and slightly too interested best man at bay, that is.

High-tech entrepreneur Camden Lewis must know: Who is this gorgeous, intelligent, and mysterious woman? Too good to be real. Convinced she’s a corporate spy out to tank his company, Camden’s not letting her out of his sight. But the constant surveillance is also opening his eyes to things about Rachel that he likes. If she’s a spy, she’s certainly the cutest one he’s ever seen.

As the week’s worth of wedding events march along, Rachel and Camden are learning almost everything there is to know about each other. Rachel’s made a career out of always a bridesmaid…but perhaps there’s a chance for her own trip down the aisle?

My Review

I’ve also read Roommaid from Sariah Wilson and highly enjoyed it, so when I saw her latest novel mixes weddings, influencers, and a whole lotta drama, I was keen to say yes to the request. Reading that Rachel Vinson is a bridesmaid for hire didn’t really shock me – there’s a lot of things people can be hired for these days and why not someone to stand in as your friend and confidante on your biggest day. I could relate quite a bit to Sadie and her career as an influencer and how that can create difficulties with making – and keeping – friendships. It was interesting to watch how Rachel kept everything on track – not just as a bridesmaid but nearly as part wedding planner also – and tried to keep the family drama at bay, keep up her façade as Sadie’s long-lost BFF, and juggle the suspicions a friend of the groom’s suddenly has toward her. Camden doesn’t believe Rachel is indeed besties with Sadie, but attempting to get closer to her to find out her real intentions causes sparks to fly between the two.

I would describe this romance as soft and sweet, a slow-building burn set amongst a beautiful backdrop in Hawaii with love in the air and plenty of NDAs to sign. The writing was fast-paced, humorous yet heartfelt and it was a sweet escape with plenty of feel-good moments along the way.
