A rising star in the world of ballroom dance, Tanya Gentilliano has traveled throughout the world, winning over audiences with her clean technique, dazzling smile and showgirl legs. In her business there’s no room for slip-ups. But after an upsetting SOS phone call from her weird-and-wild mom, Tanya lands on her butt. Instead of making it into the finals she’s making a return flight back to the States.
And she’s in for a homecoming loaded with unsettling surprises.
It isn’t just the fact that her lovable, but forever-adolescent mother has squandered all the money her late father left behind on a stable of pocket-picking toy boys. Or that her family home is in shambles and sitting in a jungle of weeds. Or her mother’s crazy scheme about Uncle Peter’s hidden money.
The worst part is finding out that her mother has hired Parker Richardson to help her search for Uncle Peter’s supposed cache of cash.
Tanya had left her quiet coastal town on Long Island’s North Fork twelve years ago, swearing never to return. Swearing she’d keep herself away from any chance of running into Parker again. She’d been so young and selfish when she had teased him and seduced him, never expecting to fall so desperately in love. The depth of their passion had terrified her, threatening every goal she had planned. But to this day she hated herself for the way she’d laughed in his face when he begged her to stay and marry him.
Too gorgeous for words and as infuriatingly down to earth as the land itself, Parker’s appearance makes all the heartache and longing come rushing back as if it were yesterday. Tanya is dying to ask him why he never married, but instead she tells him they will not need his services, that her mother’s story is just a family myth.
Stuck in her old village, Tanya tries different ways to pay her mother’s bills and save the family home she loves. She starts a very odd version of a ballroom dance program at a local academy and runs garage sales.
While rummaging through boxes in the attic, Tanya uncovers an old map and a leather-bound ledger that belonged to her great-uncle. If they are real, her mother’s story about his hidden money is no myth. And it would solve all their problems.
But Tanya knows she can’t find the treasure alone. To accomplish this tango she’ll need a partner who can really lead. Somebody who knows the backwoods country of the North Shore like the back of his hand. A person who can also maneuver a boat around its unpredictable, rocky coastline. A man who doesn’t ruffle against the odds. And one who can keep a secret.
She needs Parker Richardson.
