Beauty Review: Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Shampoo

not your mothers beach babe shampooWhile rushing into Rite Aid last week I stumbled upon Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Shampoo. I’ve tried their hair spray before and it was okay, but I’m a sucker for awesome packaging and this shampoo caught my eye. I love to curl my hair but it is super thick and fine so it won’t hold a curl for more than a few hours. I decided to give this a shot since it smelled amazing and looked like it might help me out.

Right away I read the words “coconut oil” and “sea kelp” and jumped for joy. I’ve been on a coconut oil kick for a couple months now and I’ve been using it for everything. I use a coconut oil spray for cooking and lather my body with the oil from a jar when I’m feeling dry. It is the best moisturizer I’ve ever come across. Coconut oil does amazing things for your hair. After using a little on the ends of my hair it feels like I just got back from the salon.

After one use, this shampoo made my hair even thicker than usual. My hair is fine so I don’t get a lot of volume at the top of my head, and this did the trick! It doesn’t lather since there aren’t any sulfates so you have to improvise with a little bit of water when washing. I blow-dried as I normally would and curled the ends. I saw an immediate difference. The ends actually kept a curl for longer than five minutes!  The increased texture is very visible (at least for me!) and my hair felt great for another two days. I wouldn’t recommend this as an everyday product if you have oily hair because it may be too much.

The only cons I have for this shampoo are that it doesn’t lather well, and although it smells spectacular in the bottle I don’t smell it much in my hair.
