I received a copy of AVRA’S GOD by Ann Lee Miller in exchange for an honest review.
Avra’s God by Ann Lee Miller tells the tale of four friends who are attempting to learn and live life. The foursome together have the issues to deal with the drama that their beach band has created, but they each have their own problems as well. Avra is desperate to find love, and although she thinks she has found it with Cisco, he is actually a terrible choice. Cisco wants a family and needs to deal with his parents divorce. Kallie is scared to fall in love but is a fantastic singer, although she is scared to share it with anyone but Jesse. And Jesse, he is a fame-whore who is terribly insecure amongst other things. Together, the foursome attempt to navigate life but Avra’s God changes them all.
I really enjoyed reading Avra’s God and really appreciated the GOD aspect of it all. As young adults, you are faced with so many harsh realities and it can be so difficult trying to navigate life and what you thought life would actually be like. Well, this foursome is no exception. Together they have a common interest but separately, they each struggle with something. This book is far from a fairy tale, but that is the point. Life is not perfect and Ann Lee Miller does a really great job at crafting flawed characters that are believable and real. Overall, this book was a very enjoyable read and I can’t wait to see what Ann comes out with next.
