Growing up with a father who is an A-list actor and a socialite mother, venture capitalist Karter Redford lives in the world of the rich and famous. Instead of attending movie premieres, however, he prefers spending his time helping the less fortunate, backing start-up companies and investing in cutting edge ideas. Karter is used to his life revolving around work, but when he decides he wants someone to share it with, he falls for someone his mother would never approve of: hilarious, quirky Dreamy, who has goals of her own…but also isn’t a wealthy, upper-crust socialite. Though it’s clear they’re from different worlds, their relationship might just be his greatest investment yet.
My Review
I wouldn’t describe myself as the biggest rom com fan, but every once in a while I’ll say yes to a review. The dynamic between Dreamy and Karter intrigued me, and I wondered how two very opposite people would form a relationship. I didn’t end up loving the story, but often rom coms are too predictable for me, which I know is why some people love the genre. I figured Dreamy was going to win the lottery because it was pretty much all she talked about, which I did find odd for someone who had high ambitions to basically self-sabotage getting ahead because she was just waiting for this day to happen. I liked Karter and his desire to do good in the world and really felt for him on the stress of working all the time. The way some characters spoke or behaved – like Karter’s mother – felt over the top for me and I ended up skimming the book in the second half. It’s a cute storyline, just not my cup of tea for reading.
