Book Review: I Made a Mistake by Jane Corry

About the Book

It started with a kiss

And ended in murder….

The darkly addictive new novel from the Sunday Times best-selling author of I Looked AwayBlood Sisters and My Husband’s Wife.

In Poppy Page’s mind, there are two types of women in this world: those who are faithful to their husbands and those who are not. Until now, Poppy has never questioned which she was.

But when handsome, charming Matthew Gordon walks back into her life after almost two decades, that changes. Poppy makes a single mistake – and that mistake will be far more dangerous than she could imagine.

Someone is going to pay for it with their life….

My Review

Whoa. Get ready to expect the unexpected. It seemed each chapter brought us another plot twist, and I was hooked from the beginning. One of my favorite style of books to read is where past and present intersect, and we get the present from Poppy and her mistake that derails her marriage, and also the past from Poppy’s mother in law, Betty. Betty details in a letter to Poppy how societal norms were when she was growing up and especially her marriage and becoming a mother. I was utterly fascinated reading Betty’s section, and her retelling of the past made me want to talk to others about specifically women, motherhood and marriage. There are a lot of moving parts to this story but everything kept me fully invested and toward the end, my eyebrows just kept raising in shock each time another twist popped up. Highly recommend, would be a great choice for a book club pick also.
