Summary:
What would you do if you discovered the men you were dating were fictional characters you’d created long ago?
Thirty-five-year-old Catherine Schreiber has shelved love for good. Keeping her ailing bookstore afloat takes all her time, and she’s perfectly fine with that. So when several men ask her out in short order, she’s not sure what to do…especially since something about them seems eerily familiar.
A startling revelation – that these men are fictional characters she’d created and forgotten years ago – forces Cat to reevaluate her world and the people in it. Because these characters are alive. Here. Now. And most definitely in the flesh.
Her best friend, Eliza, a romance novel junkie craving her own Happily Ever After, is thrilled by the possibilities. The power to create Mr. Perfect – who could pass that up? But can a relationship be real if it’s fiction? Caught between fantasy and reality, Cat must decide which – or whom – she wants more.
Blending humor with unusual twists, including a magical manuscript, a computer scientist in shining armor, and even a Regency ball, A Man of Character tells a story not only of love, but also of the lengths we’ll go for friendship, self-discovery, and second chances.
Review:
Simply Brilliant Novel, from beginning to end! Not your typical love story!! You will certainly fall in love with each character, even the cat, Elvis.
“A Man of Character” is a HIT!!! Margaret Locke’s first novel is a true gift to any of us that enjoy romantic comedies with a whimsical twist. And, her book is definitely whimsical! In such a delicious way!
I was enamored with this story from the beginning! This book is the perfect recipe for many of us to enjoy! I mean the heroine; Cat, Owns a book store, the Treasure Trove. She has an amazing best friend named Eliza, who loves her dearly, and supports her through thick and thin. Cat has given up on love for six years, but now suffering from “so many men, so little time” syndrome.
This book is just plain FUN!
……Margaret Locke writes of poets, poetry, writers and novels, especially Jane Austen. This book had my name written all over it!! She is a very smart writer; you could tell she knew a lot about her genre and more.
Margaret Locke is a superb writer! A wielder of words! A story-telling Genius!
I was totally hooked when Cat opened a gift from her Father; who had passed away 10 years prior, to find a Magical Medieval Manuscript. This manuscript was given to her father by his Grandmother, and it holds the powers to bring characters to life. As soon as she opens it, the romance stories that Cat wrote in the past start coming to life. I was so impressed with Margaret Locke’s ability to make this “power” seem so effortless, and not farfetched. At . All.
I was enraptured with all of the love and friendship that was weaved between these pages.
I don’t want to give away anything more specific about this book; because that will take away from its whimsy.
Read “A Man of Character” and you will be anxiously awaiting her next novel with me for “A Matter of Time”. It comes out this Fall.
Thank goodness this is not the end!
