#BookReview: Better Believe It by Fern Ronay

About the Book

Jada Marlone’s life appears to be perfect on social media. She has a loving husband, a beautiful child, and a successful career. What she doesn’t post about is the disconnect she feels in her marriage, the difficulties of motherhood, and her strained relationship with her mother.

Resigned to never being truly happy, Jada runs into an ex-boyfriend. While trying to decide whether the coincidence is her second chance at happiness, Jada begins having dreams that feature her dead cousin Gina.

With Gina’s help, Jada starts to uncover the real reasons behind her life decisions. As Jada tries to figure out her future, uncontrollable events threaten her resolve. Will she be able to draw from all she learned from Gina, or will she risk making the same mistakes twice?

My Review

I have also read Better in the Morning by Fern Ronay, and really enjoyed the dream aspect that the characters experience. Being able to talk with family members that have passed away through dreams makes for a thought-provoking plot, and with Jada having interactions with her grandparents and also cousin Gina, she tries to work through her life that feels ono the brink of implosion. Jada is a fan of looking perfect on social media – carefully worded captions, perfectly lighted photos of her family – but of course, not everything on social media is as it seems. With a strained marriage, doubts of her capabilities as a mother, and family feuds, Jada needs all the help she can get to keep it together.

Even though Jada wasn’t always the most likeable character – a little harsh at times, selfish at others – she was relatable. I could understand her reasoning behind each decision she made, and while sometimes I cringed, I still got it. I enjoy Fern’s writing – fast-paced, light-hearted even during the deeper moments, and always making me want to read just one chapter before putting my Kindle down. I would highly recommend both books!
