#BookReview: Open Season by Alisa Schindler

open seasonAbout the Book

Little league head coach Wayne Savage is at the top of his game. A big personality with a bigger ego, he’s both respected and reviled by a good many players, parents and coaches. But love him or hate him, Coach Wayne is a winner, his players are winners, and anyone who has anything negative to say about it is clearly a loser.
But that was yesterday. Today Wayne Savage is dead at home plate.
Now the team must scramble to keep it together as one assistant coach makes a play for the widowed wife and the other guns for the head coach cap, all while a murder investigation points fingers at everyone.
With foul play, major league scandal and a glimpse into the inner politics of small town sports, little league baseball has never been less appropriate for 12 year olds.

My Review

I have read from Alisa Schindler in the past, and was looking forward to another offering from her. Open Season had me curious from the synopsis – murder in suburbia? The head coach of the Little League team dead? I was all for this mystery. I loved all the twists and turns in this one, and how eventually we started to get little clips from Wayne’s POV from the night he died. It truly was like reading a reality TV show, and with a family well-versed in Little League and travel baseball, quite a few of these scenarios had me chuckling. There is romance, betrayal, friendship, manipulation and let’s not forget – murder – in the book, but it was still fast-paced and had me eagerly swiping my Kindle for more. My favorite part was definitely the big twist at the end. I won’t say anything more than that, but it left me quite satisfied with how this story wrapped up. Definitely a great mystery for your reading list!
