Synopsis: Adopted!
In the Deep South, one of the first questions asked when meeting someone new in a small town is, “Who’s your daddy?” The answer defines you as a person. Not knowing is disheartening.

Grant St. Romain, attorney, is supposed to be helping, but the hunky dimpled devil is making her mind think of other things.
Can she find the truth? Or will she break her heart trying to find out the answers in Boggy Bayou, where many secrets are hidden?
Title: Momnesia
Author: Lori Verni-Fogarsio
Received: From Lori Verni-Fogarsio
Synopsis: She’s smart, pretty, and runs her own business. So then why does she feel so dead inside? Between work, two kids, and a husband who finds her about as exciting as furniture shopping, this is the story of a (formerly-exciting but now way-too-typical) suburban mom who diagnoses herself with Momnesia and sets about finessing a new version of her old vivaciousness:
Momnesia (mahm-nee-zhuh) -noun-
Loss of the memory of who you used to be. Caused by pregnancy, play dates, and trying to keep the house cleaner than the Joneses.
She finds some adventure pursing her own interests, and does make some new friends (including the battery operated variety), but still feels like nothing more than a caretaker.
In between dealing with her husband’s manic-depresssive behavior, drama with her friends, and some naughty Internet escapades, she ponders, Is it that I haven’t been myself? Or is it that I am being myself, but just different than I used to be?
It isn’t until she tosses the Invisible Rule Book altogether, that she discovers life–and love–have more to offer than she ever imagined!
With custom-painted cover art that perfectly epitomizes the struggle of finding balance between “momminess” and “sexiness,” Momnesia is a must read for anyone who has ever been a mother, had a mother, wanted to be a mother, judged a mother, or even just wondered about mothers. A great gift book, too!

Title: The Way
Author: Kristen Wolfe
Received: From Leyane @ FSB Associates
Synopsis: Anna is a fiery tomboy living in ancient Palestine whose androgynous appearance provokes ridicule from the people around her and doubt within her own heart. When tragedy strikes her family, and Anna’s father—disguising her as a boy—sells her to a band of shepherds, she is captured by a mystical and secret society of women hiding in the desert. At first Anna is tempted to escape, but she soon finds that the sisterhood’s teachings and healing abilities, wrapped in an ancient philosophy they call “The Way,” have unleashed an unexpected power within her.
When danger befalls the caves in which the sisters have made their home, Anna embarks on a hazardous mission to preserve the wisdom of her mentors by proclaiming it among ordinary people. Her daring quest and newfound destiny reveal, at last, the full truth of her identity—a shocking revelation that will spark as much controversy as it does celebration.
Anna’s story is one of transformation, betrayal, love, loss, deception, and above all, redemption. Readers will cheer for this unforgettable protagonist—and for debut novelist Kristen Wolf, whose beautifully written book both provokes and inspires. A compelling mix of history, myth, and fantasy, The Way is a fascinating exploration of the foundations and possibilities of human spirituality.
Title: The Underside of Joy
Author: Sere Prince Halverson
Received: From Amy @ KMSPR
Synopsis: Set against the backdrop of Redwood forests and shimmering vineyards, Seré Prince Halverson’s compelling debut tells the story of two women, bound by an unspeakable loss, who each claims to be the mother of the same two children.
To Ella Beene, happiness means living in the northern California river town of Elbow with her husband, Joe, and his two young children. Yet one summer day Joe breaks his own rule-never turn your back on the ocean-and a sleeper wave strikes him down, drowning not only the man but his many secrets.
For three years, Ella has been the only mother the kids have known and has believed that their biological mother, Paige, abandoned them. But when Paige shows up at the funeral, intent on reclaiming the children, Ella soon realizes there may be more to Paige and Joe’s story. “Ella’s the best thing that’s happened to this family,” say her close-knit Italian-American in-laws, for generations the proprietors of a local market. But their devotion quickly falters when the custody fight between mother and stepmother urgently and powerfully collides with Ella’s quest for truth.
The Underside of Joy is not a fairy-tale version of stepmotherhood pitting good Ella against evil Paige, but an exploration of the complex relationship of two mothers. Their conflict uncovers a map of scars-both physical and emotional-to the families’ deeply buried tragedies, including Italian internment camps during World War II and postpartum psychosis.
Weaving a rich fictional tapestry abundantly alive with the glorious natural beauty of the novel’s setting, Halverson is a captivating guide through the flora and fauna of human emotion-grief and anger, shame and forgiveness, happiness and its shadow complement . . . the underside of joy.

While browsing for new mascara a few weeks back (I’m a mascara junkie, I always like to point out) I spotted a two for one deal – score! I snapped up Rimmel London’s Lash Accelerator Mascara and Glam’Eyes Day 2 Night Mascara. I rushed home in abandon, slapping my palms together. Technically, not only did I get two mascaras for the price of one, I got three! The Day 2 Night has two separate wands, one for length and one for volume. I was conquering these puny lashes!
Just kidding. I wasn’t conquering anything. Sadly, neither mascara really did it for me. I did favor the Lash Accelerator over the other, but I don’t see my lashes growing, and the mascara was pretty clumpy. The Day 2 Night is a big joke. Neither wand does any lengthening or volumizing or…anything. It looks like I don’t even have mascara on five minutes after I apply it. This was my first shot on Rimmel London products, and looks like it will be my last. Next!
I’m a tad late on reviewing my January Birchbox (I just received February’s last week) but that doesn’t mean I loved it any less! I couldn’t decide on my favorite product in the box, it was a tossup between the face wash and the eyeliner. Read below for my thoughts – and sign up to receive your own Birchbox!
“Birchbox delivers the best products and the best insider secrets, without any fuss. Every month Birchbox members will receive a curated box of luxe beauty samples. Each box will span beauty categories and deliver exciting products that fit into both your day-to-day routine, and into those days when you want to turn up the drama a notch.”
1. Archipelago Pomegranate Body Soap – smells amazing! That was my first thought, but this soap is also very powerful – it boasts the ability to repair cell damage and encourage collagen production. While I’m usually a fan of shower gels over bar soap, I can’t help but love this product.
2. Juicy Couture Fragrance – I love getting fragrance samples, and I was excited to see Juicy in my Birchbox. This is a super feminine scent, which is what I love. Top notes of watermelon, passion fruit, and mandarin are combined with marigold and green apple. Undertones of rose, vanilla, and caramel provide an extra boost to the fragrance, making it one of my favorite scents.
3. LARABAR Mini Bars – I won’t lie – I’m not a fan of eating food that comes in the mail. But the BF did try out this blueberry muffin, and he said it was pretty good, so thanks to him for providing this review. It was pretty interesting to read about these healthy bars – each has a max of nine ingredients and they are made without preservatives or fillers.
4. Origins Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash – I really enjoyed this product. My face is a combination of many things – some areas are too oily yet others are super dry. And that is where this face wash comes into play. Birchbox’s description reads: “Broad leaf kelp banishes excess oil, while wheat protein nourishes dry zones.” I have used this a handful of times and am seeing a difference. I would definitely buy the full sized product.
5. stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner – This was my other favorite product in the box. The worst part about it was I only got to use it three times before my sample was finished. I got the brown color, and while I usually wear blue or green eyeliner, I thought the brown really shimmered and made my eyes pop. It was super easy to line my eyes with it, and it really did stay on for most of the day. I would also buy the full sized product.

Title: Trashy Chick
Author: Cathy Lubenski
Received: From Hannah @ Vantage Point Books
Synopsis: Reporter Bertie Mallowan has drifted away from hard news stories and into the shallows of “fluff” features, the kind you find buried in the back of the newspaper. Writing about preschool fashion shows and the latest in designer garbage bags bores her so she amuses herself by inventing naughty passwords for her computer and pushing the envelope when it comes to creative lying to management types.
When she interviews greedy, nasty Robert Bellingham, the king of must-have luxury items for the rich of Southern California – like monogrammed airbags for “The Crash with Panache” and mink coats pre-streaked with red paint to foil PETA kamikazes. Over the years, his products have become de rigueur for the class that has two of everything and is seeking the one and only of something else. He’s made a lot of money and a lot of enemies.
Two days after Bertie’s interview, Bellingham’s body is found on the floor of the foyer in the family mansion; someone has aerated his skull with the stereotypical blunt object. Thanks to her interview, Bertie has inside information about the life and times of a rich and powerful murder victim and is thrust into a big story again.
Bertie is convinced that the family’s bizarre emotional ticks make them all uniquely capable of committing murder. A second murder and an attack on Bertie herself brings her face-to-face with the kind of danger she’s only ever written about, never experienced first-hand.
