Solution for Chapped Lips

Living in Iowa during the looong (and never ending) winter months can really cause havoc on a person- especially a girl! My hair gets brittle, skin is dry and cracked, and I have to go through tube after tube of Carmax because my lips are so chapped. I started deep conditioning my hair once a week, slathering on moisturizing lotion immediately after stepping out of the shower, but couldn’t figure out a way to get over my chapped lips dilemma.

Luckily, a co-worker overheard me complaining about my problem (waking up to dry bloody lips is not fun!) and suggested for me to try putting Vaseline on my lips before going to bed. And it works! Just dabbing the Vaseline over my lips helps prevent them from cracking in the middle of the night, and even helps keep them softer throughout the day, causing me to use less chapstick. I would try out this little trick if you are suffering from chapped lips!

Will Water Clear Your Skin?

As a lover of carbonated drinks, I have been trying to cut back my consumption of soda and other juices that aren’t the best for my health. My solution? Bringing a water bottle with me to work and drinking water throughout my 8 hour work day. I also bought a Brita water filter for my house, because my tap water does not taste good at all and I now can drink healthier, better tasting water instead of sugary juices at home. I was so proud of myself switching to a healthier alternative, and I even heard that drinking lots of water would help improve my skin. I got even more excited after hearing this, and upped my drinking level from about 3 full water bottles to five full water bottles during my work day.

Sad to say, I got an email from FitnessMagazine.com filled with fun pointers and facts today, and one of their little facts mentioned that drinking water (no matter how much or how little) will improve your skin. Darn. Water is still good for your overall health, but will not help hydrate and improve skin. What will help? Apply a lotion or moisturizer to your face right after you get out of the shower. That will help trap the moisture and you will begin to see improved results.

Sarah Jessica Parker Takes on Designing Role

Sarah Jessica Parker has always shown us her love for fashion, from her famous Carrie Bradshaw outfits in Sex in the City to her red carpet choices. People.com is now reporting that Parker has signed on with the fashion brand Halston (she wore their designs in the upcoming Sex in the City movie) with an active design role, possibly even the role of creative designer for Halston Heritage, the company’s just-launched secondary collection. (Halston Heritage will feature pieces at contemporary price points.) The actress has past experience in creating and designing for fashion lines; she created the affordable apparel line Bitten for Steve & Barry in 2007.

Lindsay Lohan Accused of Copying Designs

Lindsay Lohan just can’t seem to win when it comes to fashion. The actress had recently announced an expansion of her leggings line 6126 into a full clothing line, but is now being accused of copying designs from two separate designers. People.com reports that James Lillis, designer of Black Milk Clothing, pointed out the similarities between Lindsay’s “Diamond” leggings and his own “Sheer Spartan” leggings — both of which boast a signature triangle cutout at mid-thigh. Then, Fashionista.com saw the resemblance between Lohan’s geometric dress and a Jen Kao dress the star wore only last month. Kao has responded by saying, “While we are all well aware that being ‘mimicked’ or ‘copied’ has always existed in this industry, I think the evolution of it all has grown to an alarming level. It’s a shame to support the concept of taking advantage of designers who are still trying to develop a name and solidify the image of their design aesthetic.”
Lohan has yet to comment on the allegations.

Heidi Klum, supermodel and mother of four, has another project in the works. Usmagazine.com reports the lines will both debut on February 12th, and will be called Lavish and Loved. Beauty Favorite: Almay Makeup Products

I recently stumbled upon Almay makeup products, and they easily won me over. For those of you who have never heard of Almay, they bring a unique concept and great products to their consumers. Almay was started in 1931, when Fanny May Woititz grew tired of thick cosmetics infused with powerful and strong pigments and chemicals. Her husband, a professional chemist, began experimenting with her makeup ingredients. Between Alfred Woititz and dermatologist Dr. Marion Sulzberger, they developed a makeup that was lightweight and gentle enough for Fanny May to wear on a daily basis.

Since being established in 1931, Almay has been the first hypoallergenic cosmetics brand, the first brand to make 100% fragrance-free products and to disclose all ingredients used, the first brand to perform safety testing for allergy and irritation, the first brand to formulate for contact lens wearers and, you guessed it, the first brand to create cosmetic regimens for specific skin types (http://www.almay.com/pg/whyalmay/history.aspx?catid=100004&catnm=WhyAlmay&subid=2&subnm=History&nav=about-almay). Wondering how Almay got its name? by combing the names of the two founder- Fanny May and Alfred!

I started wearing Almay foundation about six months ago, after stumbling upon it at my local Walgreens. I was drawn to it because of the Smart Shade/Smart Balance Foundation. It said that the foundation came out white, but once you started to rub it on your skin, the sensing microbeads would instantly adjust and match to your tone. It also came with a free Smart Shade Blush, so I thought I’d give it a try. Now, I won’t wear any other foundation. I never have to worry about lines or my foundation not matching the color of my face, because it blends in perfectly. If you have oily skin, the smart balance works just as well, keeping oily areas shine-free throughout the day.

Almay has plenty of great products for your face, eyes, lips, and even face and eye makeup removers. I think the prices are great, and there always seems to be specials or the ability to get coupons online. Just yesterday I bought the foundation for $13.99 and got a free concealer- saving me almost $9! Keep Almay in mind if you are looking for a new makeup line to go with, and be sure to check out some of my favorite products below!
