The Girls’ Guide to Dating Zombies by Lynn Messina

The Girls’ Guide to Dating Zombies by Lynn Messina was a really light and fun book to read. The book begins in a world much different than our own, where a devastating plague has transformed almost the entire male population into zombies. Fortunately for the women left standing, these zombies aren’t the typical brain-eating kind that we see in movies today, they can be trained and medicated to the point where they can date and socialize. The story is told through the eyes of Hattie, who also happens to be the author of The Girls’ Guide to Dating Zombies. In her book, she goes into great detail about interacting with boyzomb’s: places to meet and greet, particulars of dating, communication (and quite often interpretation), medicating, ways to mask the smell of dying flesh, as well as Zombie Sex (and no, I’m not kidding about the last one).

Hattie impresses the CEO of the largest drug company in the world and is invited for a meet and greet, only to be clued into the CEO’s secret … she has a cure, and has already used it on her son, who is the first living and breathing male that Hattie has ever met. It is a love story unlike one that I have ever read.

The Girls’ Guide to Dating Zombies was a really light and fun book to read. I flew through it very, very quickly because it was such an easy read. I found myself laughing out loud several times throughout the book … which is always a good thing. My favorite parts were easily the excerpts from Hattie’s actual guide book in the story, as well as when she finally sees a man for the first time – her reaction is similar to the embarrassing sweaty palms that we all experience in our younger years. Overall, I would give this book a 4/5 stars and would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a comedic read, regardless of whether or not they enjoy fiction about zombies.

Yay. What a great review. I don’t know which part I like best–your calling Girls’ Guide a love story like no other or your recommending it to everyone regardless of how they feel about zombies. Thank you so much.
