I’m Married!

clpwedding1So…I got married. Yes, I know this post is only about 2 months late, but do you know how crazy one can become after the wedding is done and over with? I didn’t, but I sure do now! First, taking a few days to just relax and have time off work to be with my husband. We aren’t honeymooning until February when Iowa weather is extremely delightful, but we took the first two days to just relax around the house, open our gifts, and we even visited the spot where Mitch proposed, which was a lot of fun. Then it was like the real world set back in. There were rental items to return, a house to try to put back together after a week of company and craft projects, my dress to be turned in to clean and preserve, wedding thank you cards to order, and let’s not forget, ladies…changing your name. Oh, my. What a process. Starting with a horrific photo at the DMV (do they do that on purpose?) to making ten phone calls in an hour to change my name on my credit card accounts, I had a huge list that I worked on each day of all the companies where I needed to change my name. Then you also have you social security card and passport to file the change with as well. My head was about spinning, but two months later, I’m happy to say it’s done! Whew.

clpwedding2Of course, there have been fun parts. Getting our photos back, deciding which ones to print, to frame, to give to family. Creating our thank you cards and writing those out (though my arm still wants to fall off). We haven’t received our video from the ceremony yet but I’m anxiously awaiting that, as the day was such a blur I would love to be able to relieve that part again. I think that was what really surprised me the most – not how fast the day went because everyone tells you that, but that I can’t seem to remember much from the day! Whenever I say that people I assume I drank too much, which wasn’t the case! I think I was just so overwhelmed with emotion that it was hard for me to stay in the moment. You get to see how many people love you, support you, and are happy for you on the biggest day of your life, and it’s truly just overwhelming. I cried pretty much the entire morning, from getting my hair done to getting into my dress to seeing Mitch for the first time during our special moment before the ceremony. I surprised myself (and I think a few people!) by not shedding a tear during the actual ceremony. That’s the part I remember the most, because no one was coming up to me, asking me a question, needing direction, etc, etc that happens when you are a bride. It was just me and him up there, and I’ve heard from several people that it looked like we were having the time of our lives. We were whispering to each other, mouthing “I love you” and basically just being in our world. We did manage to get the vows right, not drop any rings, and kept our kiss pretty PG, and walking down the aisle as husband and wife was the greatest moment of my life. clpwedding3Then from there it turns into a blur again. I can’t even remember who all I spoke to in the receiving line (while being bustled by my bridesmaids), the trip to the reception site is just a massive blur, and then once we got to the reception there wasn’t a free moment to be had! Whether it was posing for pictures, dancing with my guests, or trying to track down a bridesmaid to help me go to the bathroom in my giant dress (let’s be serious, it took two), the night just passed in the blink of an eye. But I can’t be upset it was over before I knew it, for I expected that to happen. I hear a lot of brides say they wish they could do it again and maybe I’m the odd one out, but I don’t! There is a lot of planning, work, time and money that goes into making your big day the perfect one for you. There’s also of stress, tears, fighting, hurt feelings, and even friendships that get ruined over a wedding. So would I want to go through that again? No, please. And why would I? I have my husband, we had our day that was perfect to us surrounded by family and friends, and that’s really all that matters to me 🙂

I’ve shared some pictures throughout the post, and they include a modern shot that we’ll be putting in a canvas frame for our living room, during the wedding while we are taking our vows, my little brother walking me down the aisle, and a formal shot that you may or may not see again when it comes to book number 4…. 😉 Hope you enjoy!clpwedding4

What a lovely post. You look beautiful! I’ve always said I would go away and get married, then I would come home and have a party for the family. I don’t envy the stress lol.

I think that’s a great idea Toni! Is it bad I’m already looking forward to a vow renewal on a beach somewhere? 😉
