As CLP celebrates 5 years, I have to spotlight the fabulous reviewers on my team that help me keep up with the high demands of running a book blog! I definitely could not keep this site as up to date and filled with book reviews and content if it weren’t for my fabulous team! Today, we spotlight Allie!
Why were you interested in joining CLP as a reviewer?
Because I love to read and chick lit is one of my favorite genres. I was also a fan of the site, so it was very exciting to be able to join.
Can you name one or two of your favorite books that you’ve reviewed for CLP?
Sweet Nothings by Janis Thomas was the first book that I reviewed for CLP? I remember panicking, because I was out on the road with the kids, driving across New Mexico and Arizona (enroute to the Grand Canyon). Something happened with the shipping of the book – or maybe it was an ebook and I didn’t know how to get it on my iPad (don’t laugh – sad, but true). In the end I had a paper book, an e-book and an audio version (for driving) and it came down to the wire, but I made my deadline. It’s also (in my humble opinion) on of the best reviews I’ve ever written. I really connected with the story. My second is After I Do by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I read that book in one day – The Fourth of July to be exact. Riveting tale of a marriage falling apart. You can tell I loved the books, because I remember when and where I was, while reading!
Besides reading, what hobbies do you enjoy?
Writing! Traveling! Are those hobbies? Not sure…
What has been one of your favorite birthday celebrations?
It’ll be hard to beat my 40th – it was even more fun than when I got married. I took a beach trip with the girls, a romantic weekend with my husband, a surprise party with a limo, a night out with my high school pals, a family party with the kids, and my brother and sister-in-law visited me! All of what I listed happened separately- seriously! It was all about, me, me, me for two weeks. Plus presents! It was a glorious time! And it’s been downhill ever sinceJ.
Allie also blogs at The Latchkey Mom (www.thelatchkeymom.com ) and in addition to reviewing for CLP, she is a freelance writer whose work has appeared on the Huffington Post, Scary Mommy, The Family Legacy Center and other sites.
More about Allie
Allie Smith joined the CLP team in June 2013!
I was born on Cape Cod, where I lived for half of my childhood, until my family relocated to South Florida. I’m a graduate of the University of South Florida, where I earned a BS in Accounting and Florida Atlantic University, where I earned a Masters of Accounting. Once upon a time, I was also a CPA. It only took me five years of working in Corporate America to conclude I wasn’t a fan of accounting! I gave up the career to be a stay at home. I’m married and the mother of four crazy children (which they get it from me). Reading and writing are my escape from reality, my therapy and my passion. I write for a local magazine, My Forsyth, and my blog,www.TheLatchkeyMom.com.
I’m a voracious reader who loves a happy ending. In addition to chick lit, I read woman’s fiction, memoirs, biographies, and nonfiction books about autism, parenting, health, fitness and aging. I take great pride in having an amazing circle of friends. Other fun Allie facts: I’m an autism mom (which is a strong breed), special needs champion, part-time exercise enthusiast, recovering vegetarian, Kid Rock fan, dreamer, former sun worshipper, wine drinker, coffee addict, Patriots and Red Sox fanatic, politically independent, and a road warrior (which is also another blog I write) with a bad case of wanderlust.
