Showbiz by Ruby Preston

Ruby Preston is currently on tour with CLP Blog Tours and Showbiz. I can’t say I have ever been a real big Broadway fan. I have attended a Broadway show many years ago on a high school trip, but that is about my extent of it. But I was excited to read about a subject that I didn’t know much about, getting an insider’s behind the scenes look, and possibly learn a few new things. Well – this book was a hit for me! Preston really knocked it out of the park with drama, mystery and a cast of characters that made this book the delight it was.
MC Scarlett Savoy has been slaving for years as an under-appreciated apprentice to the “King of Broadway.” Her ruthless boss shows no mercy and will do whatever it takes to come out on top. Scarlett finds out that he might be paying off critics to rave about his shows, and wonders if she can continue to work for him – or if it’s finally time to break out on her own. At the same time, she happens to meet influential gossip columnist and sparks fly – but is he interested in Scarlett the woman, or is he more interested in her job and the story it could provide? Add in a suicide, over the top Broadway characters (on and off the stage) and complicated love lives, and you have yourself a winner!
This book flowed effortlessly for me, and I blinked in confusion when I came to the end. It went so fast! A true page-turner, and it thrilled me to be exposed to something I previously had very little knowledge on. A novel that is full of theatrics, from the characters to the scenarios, this is one for you to check out!

Future Tour: That Time Of The Month by Emily Shaffer

Emily will be on tour October 8 – October 29 with her chick lit novel That Time Of The Month.

Recently fired and almost broke, thirty-year old Ellie decides to push all distractions aside and form a crash-or-burn plan to save herself and finally pursue her dreams. She gives herself one month to make the near-impossible happen, otherwise she has to leave New York City and move into her niece’s toy room. The plan seems simple but becomes complicated by a nosey best friend, a difficult roommate, a dreamy stranger, and a really bad ring. As the month progresses, Ellie must confront the realization that by deciding to focus on herself, she may have become completely self-centered. Will she let her own ambitions, insecurities, and assumptions ruin her friendships and get in the way of a possible romance? Ruled by endless lists and fueled by several plates of pie, Ellie’s comical thoughts and mishaps drive this story from the office to the coffee shop during a month that will leave her with a broken foot, a great pair of shoes, and a forever changed life.

Road Apples by Karen Kennedy Samoranos

Road Apples by Karen Kennedy Samoranos follows Madeline Benites post breakup with Jake. Distraught and upset, she decides to take a road trip, and although it starts off bad, it ends very nicely when she falls into the arms of Wyatt McLain after a mugging. Despite a significant age difference, they have an instant connection and soon enough, Madeline discovers that she is pregnant. The two decide to start a life together but something horrific happens to Madeline on the night before her move. Will she be able to move on and move past it? Or is this fate’s way of testing her and telling her that she is living her life all wrong?

I found the relationship dynamic between Madeline and Wyatt to be heartwarming and really light and airy. Their age difference is interesting, but given their personalities, there seems to be a much larger gap than just a number. I enjoyed the story … but found several parts to be unrealistic. I found her profession difficult to believe and I also found a few scenes between Madeline and Wyatt hard to imagine. But, overall, a light story that tells of a young woman running from a broken heart, trying her past to move on, and hopelessly falling in love with an older, gentler man.

Bittersweet by Francine Pascal

I just finished the sixth and final installment of The Sweet Life, the new eSeries from Francine Pascal. Bittersweet wrapped up the tales of Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield and their gang of friends. Pascal offered readers a glimpse into their lives at the age of thirty, and I enjoyed this series. Book six is tying up the loose ends. Readers will find out whether Bruce Patman is guilty or innocent of the charges being pressed against him, whether Jessica and Todd will be able to reunite, and how Lila’s fake pregnancy/real pregnancy works out. While I enjoyed the series, I was a bit confused by the ending of the sixth book. It ended in the cliffhanger fashion I had come to expect from the previous books but…what happens next? Will there be more books to help explain the cliffhanger, carry on the stories, or are readers just supposed to take a gander themselves at what happened? I’m not sure and I’m a bit confused. I was also thrown off by the Liam twist – I can’t say I could tell from the previous books that his tale would end the way it did, and I thought it came out of nowhere and was probably only used for shock value. So while I enjoyed the first five books, the sixth left me a bit unsettled. I wish as readers and loyal fans we could have seen more of a resolution.

My First 5K: Week 11: Running Shoes

With the Color Run getting closer, my attention has shifted to my running shoes. I am currently training in my Reebok Toning Shoes – and if you hadn’t read my post about them, I would suggest it. While I thought they were fine athletic shoes, I never noticed any toning about them, and I also updated my post with the lawsuit that came against Reebok for their false claims. About two weeks ago I received my refund check in the mail. Like I said in my post – comfortable shoes and all, but I bought them for the toning effect. I’ve had them for over a year, and there are now holes near where my toes are, and I’m getting ready to pitch them. Since during the Color Run we will be pelted with paint, I wanted to wear shoes that I wouldn’t mind throwing away – my Reebok toning shoes will be that pair. But I’m now looking for a new pair of running shoes to have once I throw those away. Any suggestions? I’m not a distance runner or marathon runner, but I will continue to run at least two days a week, along with my usual walks and elliptical workouts. I haven’t started the research yet on new shoes, but I will be grateful for any suggestions you might have! Below is my workout schedule for Week 11 of my 5K training. The bold is what I would normally complete, non-bold is my 5K schedule.

Monday: Run 9 minutes, walk 1 x2
Tuesday: Walk 15 minutes, 50 sit-ups, 30 minute elliptical, 30 minute Yoga DVD
Wednesday: Run 9 minutes, walk 1 x 3
Thursday: Walk 15 minutes, 50 sit-ups, 30 minute treadmill walk (incline – 12)
Friday: Day Off
Saturday: Run 30 minutes
Sunday: 30 minute treadmill walk on incline
