Bio: Erik Atwell started his writing career in grammar school, when a one page history class assignment ballooned into a forty page fictional account of a politically controversial silversmith in Boston circa 1776. From there, he wrote short stories while living in New Hampshire, screenplays upon moving to Los Angeles, then finally novels when he ultimately landed in Seattle. He now lives in Seattle with his rock star wife and his six-month-old son, whose only musical claim to fame thus far is sleeping through an entire Go-Go’s concert. But in his defense, he was three weeks old, and the stage was a quarter-mile away. “Thank You For Flying Air Zoe” is his first novel, and he hopes to write a second novel before the little guy treks off to college.

Swift, Jackson, Win Big at AMA’s

It shouldn’t have come as a big surprise, but Michael Jackson and Taylor Swift were the night’s big winners at the AMA Awards. Swift had previously swept the Country Music Awards- beating out the big boys for Entertainer of the Year. Last night, the 19 year old singer won Favorite Artist of the Year- beating out the King of Pop for the honor. Swift was not in attendance, as she was in London, but accepted her awards via satellite. When she for Favorite Artist of the Year, Swift was clearly in shock and speechless before saying, “To even be mentioned in a category with Michael Jackson … is an unimaginable honor. I’m sending my love to the Jackson family.”
Michael Jackson won 4 awards, making his AMA total at 23 awards. The late singer won for Favorite Soul/R&B Artist, Favorite Pop/Rock Male Vocalist and Favorite Pop/Rock Album and Favorite Soul/R&B Album, both for Number Ones. His brother Jermaine accepted his award on Jackson’s behalf.

Other winners were:

• Favorite Country Band/Duo/Group – Rascal Flatts

• Favorite Alternative Artist – Green Day

• Favorite Country Male Artist – Keith Urban

• Favorite Soul/R&B Female Artist – Beyoncé

• Breakthrough Artist Award – Gloriana International

• Artist of the Year – Whitney Houston

• Favorite Hip-Hop Male Artist – Jay-Z

Rihanna to Perform at AMA’s

Rihanna has yet another item to add to her busy schedule- performing at this year’s American Music Awards. The singer, 21, will take the stage November 22nd on ABC, People.com is reporting. Rihanna has performed at the event in both 2007 and 2008, and has also won 3 AMA’s for her work.
Other singers set to perform include: Kelly Clarkson, The Black Eyed Peas, Adam Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Daughtry, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, and Jennifer Lopez.
