CLP Blog Tours Book Review: Adventure to Love by Bethany …

Bethany Ramos is now on tour with CLP Blog Tours and Adventure to Love
Summary:
In a “Bachelor” meets “Survivor”-style reality TV show, twelve women are flown to an undisclosed location to meet the eligible bachelor Ky, a former boy band member and the privileged son of an LA plastic surgeon. After arriving at a beautiful resort in Bali, the women compete for a chance at love as they fight to win Ky’s affection.

Morgan, the blunt, down-to-earth, girl next door; Harper, a wannabe Hollywood starlet who is competing not only for her fifteen minutes of fame but to win enough money for breast implants; and Brinkley, the innocent, Jesus-loving Midwesterner who believes that she and Ky are a match made in heaven, must go head-to-head with nine other women on group dates and in challenges to stay in the competition.

What happens behind the scenes when a dating reality show goes awry?
Review:
I have also read 5 Stages of Grief by Ramos and highly enjoyed the way she writes chick lit, so I was looking forward to a new book from her. Adventure to Love does not disappoint! There is humor, travel, romance, back-stabbing, and more humor between the pages. At first I thought the book was only going on focus on Harper and that made me a little worried as she isn’t very likeable, but luckily we also get perspectives from Morgan and Brinkley, and they really added a lot to the story. I was curious to see who would win the competition because it seemed that while each girl brought something different to the show, I couldn’t quite picture any of them with Ky. But I enjoyed the ending and the book overall!

Summary:

Chet Castle is a businessman who has everything, except the ability to trust. Burned by a money-hungry fiancée, he refuses to get involved in any relationship that has a shelf life longer than a head of lettuce.

Intrigued by her ambition—and determined to get her in bed—Chet offers Jill the chance of a lifetime: work as his live-in chef and he’ll help her get her catering business off the ground. When sparks fly in the kitchen, Jill realizes what’s cooking is a recipe for disaster…
Review:
I might not be the biggest romance fan alive, but I still enjoy a steamy story from time to time. I knew right going into this book the romance aspect would definitely deliver, as the sparks were shooting between Jill and Chet upon first glance of each other. I really liked Jill as our heroine, a feisty young woman who was independent and wanted to succeed on her right and not just take hand outs. Chet is a little mysterious at first – a wealthy businessman with a big heart but who has trust issues with women after burned in a previous relationship. The chemistry between the two is hot, and I just wanted to beg them to get together already! I got a touch frustrated with the seemingly constant stop and go of their relationship, but if you are a romance fan I definitely recommend this one!

Title: The Girl You Left Behind

Author: Jojo Moyes

Received: Penguin/SheReads

Synopsis: From the New York Times–bestselling author of Me Before You, a spellbinding love story of two women separated by a century but united in their determination to fight for what they love most

Jojo Moyes’s bestseller, Me Before You, catapulted her to wide critical acclaim and has struck a chord with readers everywhere. “Hopelessly and hopefully romantic” (Chicago Tribune), Moyes returns with another irresistible heartbreaker that asks, “Whatever happened to the girl you left behind?”

France, 1916: Artist Edouard Lefevre leaves his young wife, Sophie, to fight at the front. When their small town falls to the Germans in the midst of World War I, Edouard’s portrait of Sophie draws the eye of the new Kommandant. As the officer’s dangerous obsession deepens, Sophie will risk everything—her family, her reputation, and her life—to see her husband again.

Almost a century later, Sophie’s portrait is given to Liv Halston by her young husband shortly before his sudden death. A chance encounter reveals the painting’s true worth, and a battle begins for who its legitimate owner is—putting Liv’s belief in what is right to the ultimate test.

Like Sarah Blake’s The Postmistress and Tatiana de Rosnay’s Sarah’s Key, The Girl You Left Behind is a breathtaking story of love, loss, and sacrifice told with Moyes’s signature ability to capture our hearts with every turn of the page.

Title: Love and Happiness

Author: Galt Niederhoffer

Received: St. Martins Press

Synopsis: Jean Banks’ life is middling to poor. Her job as a film producer largely involves cold calling investors. Her sex drive for director husband Sam has all but vanished. Her children are a delight, but also a constant reminder that she’s not an unattached, twenty-something artist anymore. Put simply, Jean is in a midlife rut.

…until she clicks a button. Until the cache of unsent emails she’s written to Doug, her college flame, blasts across the World Wide Web. Until she meets handsome stranger Benjamin Kraft on a business trip and falls truly, madly, deeply for him. Now the cornerstone of a love quadrangle, Jean must choose—either the safe, day-to-day equilibrium she’s come to inhabit, or a liberation that will split her life open at its seams.

This is Forty for the Park Slope set, LOVE AND HAPPINESS perfects the balance between the Victorian and the modern that Niederhoffer first achieved in A Taxonomy of Barnacles. Her third novel artfully examines relationships, family, and the film world, with a style that winks at both Madame Bovary and Miranda July.

Title: Maybe I Will

Author: Laurie Gray

Received: Novel Publicity

Synopsis: It’s not about sex.

It’s about how one secret act of violence changes everything–how best friends can desert you when you need them most, how nobody understands. It’s about the drinking and stealing and lying and wondering who you can trust. It’s about parents and teachers, police officers and counselors–all the people who are supposed to help you, but who may not even believe you.

It’s about how suddenly all of your hopes and dreams can vanish, and you can find yourself all alone, with nothing and no one. Your only choice is to end it all or to start over… and all you can think is Maybe I Will.

Author Laurie Gray presents a compelling picture of the realities of sexual assault in Maybe I Will, drawing on her years of experience as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney, dealing with crimes against children. The twist in the story is that we never know for sure if the victim is a boy or a girl, and we realize that it doesn’t matter, because it’s not about sex.

CLP Blog Tours Book Review: Between Friends by Amanda Cowen

Amanda Cowen is now on tour with CLP Blog Tours and Between Friends
Summary:
The only way to have a friend is to be one…especially between the sheets…

When neurotically challenged and unlucky in love Megan Daniels is propositioned by her life-long friend Ben Romano with a coin toss (heads, they sleep together, tails, they don’t) the night before they are about to attend a destination wedding, she drunkenly accepts his challenge. But when Megan wakes up the next morning with a bad hang-over and Ben in her bed, she is more than mortified. It isn’t until the tropical heat begins to ignite emotions Megan never believed or thought she could possibly have, when she starts to question if risking their friendship is the answer to finding true love.

A cute and contemporary debut novel, BETWEEN FRIENDS faces one girl’s struggle between the fine lines of friendship and love and the risk of opening up her heart to the possibility of forever.
Review:
Since my upcoming wedding is just weeks away, I’ve been a big fan of books that are about weddings or really just have a wedding in them – which Between Friends does! The wedding scenes were a lot of fun to read about-especially the actual wedding when a lot of drama goes down – but of course the real story is about Megan and Ben, longtime friends that decide to cross that friendship line into something more. With a lot of twists and turns along the way – including one big twist that I didn’t see coming – Megan and Ben try to decide if being together is the right thing and if not – can their friendship survive them sleeping together? I know the storyline might seem pretty predictable, but there was plenty of good plot twists thrown in there to keep it fresh and fun. I didn’t love all of the supporting cast, in particular Megan’s girlfriends, but I don’t think enough time was spent on their friendship to help readers understand why all these very different females were friends. Overall I thought this was cute and quick read, perfect for the beach while enjoying a drink!
