Keep your Workouts in Check

It’s summertime (hallelujah) and the rush to get that perfect bikini bod is in full force. This may be the opportune time to step back and examine your workout. Do you switch some things up, add in cardio or more reps to your usual routine? Or do you need a whole reboot to get that tiny waistline? Fitness magazine has 10 tips and tricks that readers should consider- I know I am making the necessary changes to my workouts after reading this!
Do not rely on cardio alone! Even though cardio and aerobic exercises will make you sweat and help you tone, being mindful of your diet along with your regular exercise will really make the difference in your body.
Rushing through reps. Doing reps quickly may make you think you are getting the work done, but this is not the case. In order to be toned muscles must be challenged, and this includes both in weights and in reps. Fitness suggests reaching for a lighter dumbbell when you aren’t moving the weight with steady control as you lift and lower, and heavier if you don’t believe you’ve done just about all you can do by the end of a set.
Too much time on the bike. I was once worried that bicycling multiple times during the week was going to make my thighs larger- not more toned. This can be the case if you pick the bike for all your sweat sessions. To tone thighs, Fitness recommends cycling once or twice week, and the other days choose the elliptical or treadmill for best results.

Walking Workouts to Get in Shape

One of my favorite exercise routines is the most basic- walking! Usually I make it on the treadmill three times a week, walking at a brisk pace at a steep incline. Even though I am “just” walking, the pace and the incline are giving me a great cardio workout. Shape.com has a great walking workout plan, that includes two different workouts, a 30 min quick blast and a 60 min fat torcher that you can alternate between. Check out both workouts here and get walking!

Shape Magazine Workout DVD’s

I think most of you can tell I am a big fan of Shape Magazine, but it’s not just their magazine that I utilize for fitness. Shape makes fabulous workout videos, and I just bought my 3rd workout DVD last week. I really like their DVD’s because they offer so many different segments in one. For example, I just bought the Shape: 20 Minute Makeover DVD. This includes a 20 minute interval training, where it has high intensity cardio segments and low intensity strength training segments, so your body is getting a complete workout. Then, it has 4 ten minute segments that target a specific zone: arms, abs, thighs, and butt. And more- it also has a bonus cardio routine for a quick, fat blasting workout. So depending on the mood I am in or if there is a specific area on my body I want to get toned up, I can choose from one of the routines. And I like the fact that they are short, but effective workouts. I don’t have a whole lot of time to devote to fitness, so quickly being able to burn calories is the best for me. I would recommend everyone to check out the DVD’s Shape has to offer and find one that works the best for you!
