Summary:
When an over-the-top collection of vintage Hollywood costumes comes to Samantha Kidd’s hometown, it brings a hat box full of hype. Close friend Eddie is in charge of the exhibit but when hype turns to homicide, he turns to Samantha for help. Brimming with good intentions, she loops in the cops, but after one too many cloche calls, she’s soon in over her head. If she can tear the lid off the investigation, it might mean a feather in her fedora. And if she can’t? She might get capped.
Review:
I have also read Buyer, Beware and Designer Dirty Laundry in this series, so of course I was excited to head back into Samantha’s fashionable – and murderous – world. This series is such a blast, and the third book was just as fun to read. Of course she gets herself wrapped up in another murder mystery, and I loved that I was surprised at the ending and the whodunit. I honestly didn’t see that coming! Samantha’s romantic life is also one that I can’t wait to keep reading about, and I really hope there is more coming. I highly recommend this series!

From debut author, Traci Andrighetti, comes a tale of murder, mayhem, and meddling Sicilian grandmas…
Francesca “Franki” Amato is a tough-talking rookie cop in Austin, Texas—until an unfortunate 911 call involving her boyfriend, Vince, and a German female wrestler convinces her once and for all that she just isn’t cut out for a life on the police force. So Franki makes the snap decision to move to New Orleans to work at her friend Veronica’s detective agency, Private Chicks, Inc. But Franki’s hopes for a more stable life are soon dashed when Private Chicks is hired by the prime suspect in a murder case to find out what really happened to a beautiful young boutique manager who was found strangled to death with a cheap yellow scarf. When she’s not investigating, Franki is hoping to seduce handsome bank executive Bradley Hartmann, but most of her time is spent dodging date offers from a string of “good Italian boys”—make that not-so-good aging Italian men—that her meddlesome Sicilian grandma has recruited as marriage candidates. As Mardi Gras approaches and the mystery of the murdered shop girl gets more complicated, Franki must decipher the odd ramblings of a Voodoo priestess to solve both the murder and the mystery of her own love life.

The truth is a bitter pill…
Rennie Harlow is having a bad year. She had a handsome husband, a good job, and a renovated condo in Chicago. Now, thanks to one “exotically beautiful” paralegal, she’s divorced, faking her way through a writing career, and living above her hypochondriac mother’s garage back in Morrisville, the small town she couldn’t leave fast enough at eighteen. On top of all of that, she just found Doc Hallacy, the local pharmacist, dead behind his counter. And the worst part is, he’s the third body she’s stumbled across this year.
Jake Bristol has lived in Morrisville his whole life. A former bad boy turned sheriff, he doesn’t believe it’s just Rennie’s luck or timing that’s the problem. He thinks she’s too nosy for her own good. The last thing he needs is her messing around with his murder investigation so that she can freelance for the Morrisville Gazette. But as they both delve deeper into Doc’s death, they find that things don’t add up. This isn’t a robbery gone wrong or the work of a desperate junkie. Someone has a secret they’re killing to keep. The only question is—who’s next?
Susan M. Boyer is now on tour with CLP Blog Tours and Lowcountry Bombshell
Summary:
Liz Talbot thinks she’s seen another ghost when she meets Calista McQueen. She’s the spitting image of Marilyn Monroe. Born precisely fifty years after the ill-fated star, Calista’s life has eerily mirrored the late starlet’s–and she fears the looming anniversary of Marilyn’s death will also be hers.
Before Liz can open a case file, Calista’s life coach is executed. Suspicious characters swarm around Calista like mosquitoes on a sultry lowcountry evening: her certifiable mother, a fake aunt, her control-freak psychoanalyst, a private yoga instructor, her peculiar housekeeper, and an obsessed ex-husband. Liz digs in to find a motive for murder, but she’s besieged with distractions. Her ex has marriage and babies on his mind. Her too-sexy partner engages in a campaign of repeat seduction. Mamma needs help with Daddy’s devotion to bad habits. And a gang of wild hogs is running loose on Stella Maris.
With the heat index approaching triple digits, Liz races to uncover a diabolical murder plot in time to save not only Calista’s life, but also her own.
Review:
I picked up this book without having read the first, Lowcountry Boil, but that did not hinder my reading experience in the slightest! I’m a big fan of chick lit mysteries, and I had a lot of fun with the characters. The plot line with Calista – who looks like Marilyn Monroe and whose life seems to freakishly parallel to the late bombshell – was really intriguing. I liked that I was never quite sure who it was that was after Calista, and I loved when everything was revealed! I do want to pick up the first book simply because I think I would enjoy it, and I look forward to more!

Owning a restaurant is as crazy for Nicky Landry as an alcoholic owning a bar. But despite the fact that she has to cram herself into a body shaper like an over-stuffed cannelloni in order to look somewhat decent in a dress, life is pretty good; she’s about to throw the party of the year for her graduating doctor boyfriend, Rob, who, by the way, she’s pretty sure is going to propose.
Well, life was good – until her boyfriend’s new girlfriend showed up at the party and, after ordering Rob to get his stuff out of her house and get lost, she finds him face-up with her $200 Chroma knife sticking right out of his cheating heart.
As the prime suspect, Nicky is already in plenty of trouble, but thanks to her well-meaning friend, who convinces her to try and clear her name on her own, her problems only multiply. She’s convinced she can solve the murder – if only she can figure out who the skinny person she’d seen Rob walking away with after the party was. Too bad he or she might find – and kill – her first.
