Book Review: Love in Darkness by E.M. Tippetts

I received a copy of Love in Darkness by E.M. Tippetts in exchange for an honest review.
Summary:
Alex had everything when he was with Madison. But the darkness within him wouldn’t go away. After two years apart, he returns to Pelican Bluffs and to the girl he never wanted to leave.

Madison wants to give their love another chance, but Alex can’t fight fate. He is what he is. Ruined. Crazy like his mother. And Madison deserves so much more. When his secrets spill out into their small town, Alex has a choice to make. Hide away in the darkness forever, or let love in.
Review:
I have another varied review today! I have read past titles from Tippetts, but they were her chick lit books. I was interested to read what else she had put out there, so I accepted a review request for Love in Darkness. Clearly this is not my niche genre, which is fine. I like to read outside of chick lit too, but sometimes I was having trouble identifying with the book and really getting invested in it. I also kept feeling like I was missing something. There was a little voice niggling at me the whole time that clearly I was down a puzzle piece, and finally as I looked at the Amazon page I realized this is a sequel, so that explains that feeling. But while I might have been out of the loop and reading outside the norm, I still was able to enjoy the story. It goes by quickly – I had it read in just over a day. The characters had depth and a journey was to be had with them, that was evident from page one. I also really respect Tippetts for writing a book that can shed light on a subject that is often shied away from. If you’re a chick lit fan looking to go a bit deeper, give this one a read!

Book Review: Nobody’s Damsel by E.M. Tippetts

I received a copy of Nobody’s Damsel by E.M. Tippetts in exchange for an honest review. I recently reviewed Someone Else’s Fairytale and really enjoyed the story, and I was looking forward to the follow-up on Chloe and Jason’s romance. I always hear that sequels aren’t supposed to be as good, but I thought this novel was even better than the first! It didn’t take me long at all to finish because I was so gripped by the tale and couldn’t put the book down until the end.
If you haven’t read the first book I really recommend it, because I want you to read Nobody’s Damsel and having the background information on Chloe and Jason will help immensely. The couple is now married, but Chloe is still having some difficulty adjusting to her role as wife of a Hollywood A-Lister. She doesn’t enjoy the paparazzi stalking her or the incessant rumors printed about her marriage, but she truly loves Jason and believes he loves her. Chloe has also taken on a job as a forensic scientist, something close to home for her after almost being murdered when she was younger.
The story weaves between Chloe’s work and the case that she is struggling on, and her home life and her struggles with the ever-present paparazzi and the undying rumor that Jason is cheating on her with his ex – and new costar. I was riveted from the never-ending action on the pages, and I found myself so entranced by the story that once while reading someone knocked on my door and I actually yelped. There is mystery, intrigue, romance, celebrity, scandal, death…all wrapped up in a truly impressive novel with a sweet cover. A favorite!

Chloe and Jason are back in Albuquerque where Chloe’s just taken a job in the Albuquerque Police Department’s crime lab. Things are off to a rough start when the press follow her to her first crime scene, eager for a comment on the persistent rumor that Jason is cheating on her. When Chloe discovers that the crime is against a child roughly the same age she was when she became an assault victim, it’s more emotional baggage than she can bear, but to quit would be to give up on a little girl in desperate need of a rescue. Can Chloe face the paparazzi and step into the limelight to rescue a little damsel in distress, or has she bitten off more than she can chew?

Jason Vanderholt is the hottest actor in Hollywood. Chloe Winters is a college student who hasn’t bothered to watch most of his movies. When they meet by chance, he is smitten and she becomes the woman every other woman in America is dying to be, but it just isn’t her fairytale.

My Review:
I’ve always been a bit fascinated by celebrity couples where one is a celeb and one is not – Matt Damon always pop into my mind, or more recently – Kevin Jonas. What does that other person feel like when so many women would do anything to switch places with them? And can the celebrity ever feel like their partner truly loves them for them? Someone Else’s Fairytale was a really interesting read because of Jason and Chloe’s relationship. Chloe isn’t someone who buys into the whole celebrity world, which Jason is firmly rooted in. There are a lot of well-placed twists along the way that kept this already interesting story even more intriguing, and I thought all the characters¬¬–– even in the supporting cast––were well-developed and contributed nicely to the plot. I think chick lit fans would really enjoy this book!
