Word of the Week: Setback

I have been noticing a certain word popping up continually this past week, and it got me thinking. The word of the week is setback, read some examples below:
Example 1: Lindsay Lohan on her recent failed drug test: “This was certainly a setback for me but I am taking responsibility for my actions and I’m prepared to face the consequences.”
Example 2: Jerry Jones on his Dallas Cowboys starting the NFL season 0-2: “It’s just something you can’t expect. You can’t anticipate it and you’ve got to realize it’s quite a setback.”
Even though I am a huge football fan and understand the demise of opening the season 0-2, Lindsay Lohan’s constant drug abuse and battles with the court may be a bigger issue. But that’s not really what I’m going for. Everyone has to deal with setbacks, and it’s how we handle these hurdles that build character.
A small example from my life: I was doing great on my better eating plan until the weekend came around and I visited fast food chains three times in two days. Certainly a setback for me. Maybe not a life changing one, but I still had to figure out how to get myself back on track after eating greasy food and gulping sugary sodas. I threw in an extra gym workout and pre-made my lunches for the week so I couldn’t be tempted again to grab McDonalds.
We have to remember, setbacks will always occur in our lives. The unexpected happens. When they do, we must pick ourselves back up, examine the problem and why the setback occurred, and prepare for facing the future in a better way. Whether that entails rehab from Lindsay, a new coach for Dallas, or simply better preparation skills, setbacks will not derail someone forever. It’s a minor glitch, one that wants to be fixed. So put a smile on your face and welcome some setbacks from time to time. You may realize how much better of a person you are after having to deal with one- or several- of these pesky problems.

Michael Lohan Engaged to Kate Majors

I couldn’t more grossed out: Lindsay Lohan’s father, Michael Lohan is engaged to Kate Majors. Yes, the same Kate Majors that was once linked to father of eight, Jon Gosselin. The couple, who have been dating for a few solid months, plan to possibly walk down the aisle at the end of the year. People.com, who announced the engagement, reports that Majors, who is 23 years younger than Lohan, had her fiancée meet her father over the Easter weekend. Ew.

Lindsay Lohan Accused of Copying Designs

Lindsay Lohan just can’t seem to win when it comes to fashion. The actress had recently announced an expansion of her leggings line 6126 into a full clothing line, but is now being accused of copying designs from two separate designers. People.com reports that James Lillis, designer of Black Milk Clothing, pointed out the similarities between Lindsay’s “Diamond” leggings and his own “Sheer Spartan” leggings — both of which boast a signature triangle cutout at mid-thigh. Then, Fashionista.com saw the resemblance between Lohan’s geometric dress and a Jen Kao dress the star wore only last month. Kao has responded by saying, “While we are all well aware that being ‘mimicked’ or ‘copied’ has always existed in this industry, I think the evolution of it all has grown to an alarming level. It’s a shame to support the concept of taking advantage of designers who are still trying to develop a name and solidify the image of their design aesthetic.”
Lohan has yet to comment on the allegations.

Lindsay Lohan Expanding Fashion Line

Lindsay Lohan, who was recently criticized as the artistic advisor to the clothing line Ungaro, isn’t letting the harsh words bring her down. People.com has reported that Lohan will be expanding her fashion line, which now consists of signature 6126 leggings. Lohan posted this to her Twitter page: “i need MORE followers i am so sad about this, how can i tell everyone about my 6126 full collection COMING OUT! all clothing.”

The line is set to launch in the fall of 2010 and will feature 100 items- including $18 leggings and a $300 leather jacket. The line is supposed to continue to expand, the following spring it should include handbags, shoes, jewelry, and cosmetics.

Lindsay Lohan’s Collection Bashed

Emanuel Ungaro, founder of the fashion house bearing his name, is bashing Lindsay Lohan and her failed clothing collection. According to the Agence French Passe, the 76 year old Ungaro told told an audience at the Estoril film festival in Lisbon, Portugal on Monday that Lohan’s collection “was a disaster.” The 23 year old Lohan was tapped as Artistic Advisor to the house in September and presented co-designed collection with Estrella Archs, house designer, less than a month later. People.com reports that Ungaro is “furious but there isn’t a thing I can do. I have absolutely no link with that house.”

Lindsay Lohan Was Possibly Dating Heath Ledger Before His Death

Lindsay Lohan’s father, Michael Lohan, has released another recorded phone conversation, this time speaking with ex-wife Dina. And this particular call releases a secret relationship between Lindsay and the late Heath Ledger. Usmagazine reports that Dina can be heard saying that her daughter, “was dating Heath when he died . . . I don’t know if you know that, but I know cause I would drop her off and they were friends, very, very close.” Ledger died on January 22, 2008 from an accidental overdose. The actor was just 28.
Dina Lohan is understandably upset in the tape, seeing similarities between Lindsay and Ledger. She says, “When she’s drunk or takes an Adderall with it she will do something like Heath Ledger did in a second without thinking.” Lindsay, 23, has taken to her Twitter page about her father’s actions, calling him “disgusting.”
