CLP Blog Tours Book Review: Buried Leads by LynDee Walker

LynDee Walker is on tour now with CLP Blog Tours and Buried Leads
Summary:
When an Armani-clad corpse turns up in the woods, crime reporter Nichelle Clarke smells a scoop. A little digging, and Nichelle uncovers a web of corruption that stretches all the way to Washington, D.C. Politics. Murder. And a dead lobbyist. It’s everything Nichelle’s ever dreamed of.
The cops are playing it close, the feds even closer, and Nichelle’s afraid her boss will assign the story to the political desk any day. Richmond’s new ATF SuperCop makes an arrest before she can say “Louboutin,” but Nichelle’s gut says he’s got the wrong guy.
Her sexy Mafia boss friend warns her off the case, her TV rival is hot on her designer heels, an ambitious copy editor wants her beat, and victims are piling up faster than she can track them down. As Nichelle zeroes in on the truth, it’ll take some fancy footwork to nab this headline before the killer nabs her.
Review:
I hadn’t read the first book in this series, Front Page Fatality, but that did make me like this book any less! I’m a sucker for a good mystery book, and this was hooked me from the beginning. I loved the Mafia boss/love interest angle. But more than just the romance part, I thought Buried Leads was smartly written. There is murder and politics and corruption and Nichelle is right in the middle of it following the clues and trying to crack the case. I have Front Page Fatality on my to-read list simply because I know I will enjoy the story, and look forward to more from this series!

When an over-the-top collection of vintage Hollywood costumes comes to Samantha Kidd’s hometown, it brings a hat box full of hype. Close friend Eddie is in charge of the exhibit but when hype turns to homicide, he turns to Samantha for help. Book Review: Accused by Lisa Scottoline

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Summary:
New York Times bestselling and Edgar Award–winning author Lisa Scottoline revolutionized crime fiction when she introduced her all-female law firm of Rosato & Associates, thrilling readers with her twisty, fast-paced plots and capturing their hearts with her cast of strong and relatable female characters. Now Bennie Rosato, Mary DiNunzio, Judy Carrier, and Anne Murphy are back with all cylinders firing in Accused.
Mary Dinuzio has just been promoted to partner and is about to take on her most unusual case yet, brought to the firm by a thirteen-year-old genius with a penchant for beekeeping. Allegra Gardner’s sister Fiona was murdered six years ago, and it seemed like an open-and-shut case: the accused, Lonnie Stall, was seen fleeing the scene; his blood was on Fiona and her blood was on him; most damningly, Lonnie Stall pleaded guilty. But Allegra believes Lonnie is innocent and has been wrongly imprisoned. The Gardner family is one of the most powerful in the country and Allegra’s parents don’t believe in reopening the case, so taking it on is risky. But the Rosato & Associates firm can never resist an underdog. Was justice really served all those years ago? It will take a team of unstoppable female lawyers, plus one thirteen-year-old genius, to find out.
Review:
This is my first book from the Rosato & Associates series, but not my first from Lisa Scottoline. I’m a big fan of mystery novels especially those with suspense, and this one definitely had that! Even though I was new to these characters, it was easy to fit right into their lives. I felt for Mary, who was clearly struggling with her new relationship after losing her first husband to murder. The friendship she has with Judy got pretty intense once Mary is made partner, and that was really intriguing to read about. But of course, we are centered on the case Mary takes on – trying to find the real killer of Fiona Gardner, a young girl murdered in her own home. Her little sister Allegra is determined to find out the real murderer, as she is certain the wrong man is behind bars. It was fascinating to follow along with Mary and her gang, and I felt like I learned a lot about law and really all the well, legalities, that can come with cases. It could be pretty frustrating to read about a case that clearly wasn’t quite put together right, but there was about twenty hoops to jump through in order to get it reopened. The ending was especially intense and my jaw dropped when we find out the real killer. I hope you can read this and I hope to get my hands on more from the series!

CLP Blog Tours Book Review: Killer Image by Wendy Tyson

Wendy Tyson is now on tour with CLP Blog Tours and Killer Image
Summary:
As Philadelphia’s premier image consultant, Allison Campbell helps others reinvent themselves, but her most successful transformation was her own after a scandal nearly ruined her. Now she moves in a world of powerful executives, wealthy, eccentric ex-wives and twisted ethics.
When Allison’s latest Main Line client, the fifteen-year-old Goth daughter of a White House hopeful, is accused of the ritualistic murder of a local divorce attorney, Allison fights to prove her client’s innocence when no one else will. But unraveling the truth brings specters from her own past. And in a place where image is everything, the ability to distinguish what’s real from the facade may be the only thing that keeps Allison alive.
Review:
Ooh, this is a clever book! Filled with plot twists, intrigue, and plenty of charm, I have just added Wendy Tyson as a mystery writer to watch for! I loved this book, from the psychological thrill ride many of the characters put us through, the mixed up romances, and the ending that I really didn’t see coming. This book is well-written, thoughtful, and made to keep readers hooked on the story. There is plenty going on to keep us engaged, and the depth left me feeling like one happy camper once I closed the book. I’ll be watching for the second novel in the series – MURDEROUS LOOKS – set to be released May 2014!

Cold Dawn by Carla Neggers

When Rose Cameron finds a body, burnt nearly beyond recognition, the small town of Black Falls, Vermont fears a killer could be a on the loose-again. Smoke jumper Nick Martini joins the community from California after an arson investigator is killed, a hunch that the death may be connected to the recent Black Falls murder. Now, Rose and Nick must deal with the one night of passion they shared months ago, to figure out if it could be anything more. But with Nick best friends and business partners with one of Rose’s highly over protective brothers, neither are sure the relationship could work- or if they really want it to. But both need to push aside their feelings of lust and romance and catch the killer lurking in Black Falls.
I knew Cold Dawn by Carla Neggers would be on my Favorites List after the first chapter. Even though this mystery novel is part of a series, readers will easily be able to pick up with the characters and the plot even if they have not read the previous books. The suspense was enough to keep me up at night, frantically flipping the pages to figure out who the murderer was and how all the subplots would tie together. The romance between the lead couple was very well written, full of drama and cliff hangers at the end of chapters, that kept me hooked on this story. My only issue was the amount of characters that contributed to the story, I began to feel overwhelmed after trying to keep track of all of them! But besides that little fact, this is a great story that gets a definite recommendation from me. After reading Cold Dawn, Carla Neggers has shot to the top of my favorite authors list!
