Jennifer Hudson Lands Post Baby Acting Role
Jennifer Hudson is heading back to the big screen. After giving birth to her son David, now 3 months old, Hudson had been set to star in the drama Winnie, playing the wife of South Africa’s first black president, Nelson Mandela. Usmagazine reports that the movie will begin shooting May 30th in locations such as Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa. It has been reported that scenes will also be shot on Robben Island, the place that Mandela was held prisoner for 18 of 27 years for being convicted in South African courts of sabotage and other crimes.
Hudson told Variety Magazine about her upcoming film role, saying, “I was compelled and moved when I read the script. Winnie Mandela is a complex and extraordinary woman and I’m honored to be the actress asked to portray her. This is a powerful part of history that should be told.” Hudson has also appeared in Sex and the City: The Movie and The Secret Life of Bees. She is expected to sing the theme song for Winnie.
