A Perfect Storm by Lori Foster

A Perfect Storm is the next title in Lori Foster’s Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor series, and I was excited to read it. I was sucked into the series from the first book, When You Dare, and though book # 2- Trace of Fever – didn’t leave my raving, Savor the Danger reeled me back in to the series. During Savor the Danger we meet Spencer Lark and Arizona Storm, and these are the characters that are focused on throughout A Perfect Storm. Arizona is a twenty-one year old who was put through hell courtesy of her own father when he put her up for human slavery and sex trafficking. Jackson (Savor the Danger) saves Arizona from her captures and becomes like a brother to her, but Arizona is all about remaining independent – and intent on making sure any other human traffickers are brought to justice. Spencer has his hands full trying to keep Arizona safe, and now realizes he is starting to develop feelings for her on top of it. But with the recent death of his wife, should he be looking at another female? And Arizona is so untamed, so determined to live life her own way, that it would be near impossible for them to make it as a couple. But before they can sort out their relationship, another bad guy must be brought to justice.
I liked A Perfect Storm, not quite as much as books 1 and 3, but more than Trace’s. Arizona was a bit of a hot mess from time to time, but from her past I don’t think anyone could really blame her. I thought the plot was interesting with the bar that they were trying to expose – the bad guy in the end really surprised me and I thought it was a fabulous twist. It was great to catch up with the characters from the past books as well, and I read this fairly quickly. My only gripes are that it just seemed to be a lot of the same stuff – a petite girl with a huge rack, muscular dude that is so well-endowed the girl is a little afraid to be with him. Girl with a lot of trust issues that needs to be talked through the intimate moments. I would like to see maybe a little different scenario, but I understand the series is about guys who are professional mercenaries, so I can’t expect them to be a whole lot different. With that fact shoved aside, I really did enjoy this book and would definitely recommend this series from Lori Foster!

Savor the Danger by Lori Foster

The drooling continues on with Savor the Danger, the next in line from Lori Foster and her hunky mercenaries. This story focuses on Jackson and Alani, Trace’s younger sister. The two wake up in bed together after a night of passion, but Jackson can’t remember a thing. He knows he’s been drugged, but he doesn’t know by who or why. Alani is devastated that Jackson doesn’t remember being with her, or the words he said to her in the middle of the passion. Jackson and Alani tiptoe around their true feelings, afraid of what the other is truly thinking. I really loved Savor the Danger, and I was a bit worried after Trace of Fever fell flat for me. I loved that the action started right away, and not just the sexual stuff. Since the story opens with Jackson waking up not remembering anything, I was immediately intrigued by what was going on and who was after him. I was gripped throughout the story, and loved learning about Dare, Trace, and their wives. This is such a fun and intense series and I definitely recommend. Will be looking forward to the next book!

Trace of Fever by Lori Foster

Lori Foster is keeping hearts racing and palms sweaty with her latest novel Trace of Fever. This book picks up after When You Dare, and follows Dare’s friend and partner Trace Rivers as he works undercover as a bodyguard for Murray Coburn. Murray runs a human trafficking business, and Trace has a personal interest after the kidnapping of his sister Alani. Just when Trace thinks he has gotten enough information and amo to take down Coburn and his business, Priscilla “Priss” Patterson shows up at the offices claiming to be Coburn’s daughter. Priss is set for revenge against Coburn, who used and abused her mother and eventually led to a terrible and fearful childhood for Priss while her mother had to cope with her nightmares. Now Trace’s plans are foiled while he tries to protect Priss, all without blowing his cover and exposing the real him to Coburn and his associates.
I was really excited to pick up Trace of Fever after I gave When You Dare a five star review, but the book fell a bit flat for me. There is so much odd sexual tension and innuendos between Trace and Priss during the beginning chapters that I started to feel a bit lost. I felt that Dare had a lot more action and kept the story moving with a seat of your pants feel to it, while Trace focused more on the sex. Every character seemed only to care about sex, and it started to get stale for me after so many chapters. Once the end started approaching and I didn’t know if Trace of Priss would get out alive after confronting Coburn, the story started to pick up for me and I became engrossed in the last few chapters. If you are a big romance fan, I would definitely recommend checking out the book, but if you like the action more, you might become a bit bored with the beginning. It was fun to catch up with Dare and Molly and even Chris from the first book, and see how their lives have progressed. There is a third book coming out, Savor the Danger, that follows Jackson and Trace’s sister Alani, and I will be interested in reading that one as well. That will be available June 28th.
