Skipping Out On Henry by C.L. Ogilvie had me at the synopsis and then add in a cute cover – I was sold! Chick lit with a time travel twist … that sounded right up my alley. We start off following two best friends – Posey Gilbert and Tabitha Landry – who are enjoying one last girl’s trip before Tabitha is married. They travel to London to take in the sights, but thanks to Posey seeing a cute guy and being determined to go out with him, they actually end up … time traveling to the year 1539. Whoops. Posey being Posey helps Anne of Cleves, who is set to marry that one guy … you know, King Henry the Eighth, she helps her escape the marriage. After that, she then learns that the cute guy she was following is a Skipper, who time travels and needs to make sure all historic moments play out as they should. Which means, Anne of Cleves has to marry Henry the Eighth, setting in motion what comes next, and what comes next and what comes next in history. Again, whoops. Posey and Tabitha have to think fast so they can even make it back home safely (and be born, but who’s counting) and Tabitha steps in as Anne of Cleves. With a remarkably similar appearance and quick-talking Posey as her translator, the two set out to dupe everyone around them, find the real Anne of Cleves, and somehow time travel back to their own world. Simple, right?
This book was a hoot from beginning to end. I loved every moment of Posey and Tabitha’s adventures, and was so curious to see how the ending would come about. Strong writing, great scenery, plenty of laughs and an all-around solid story. I highly recommend!
