About the Book
A brilliant physicist studying the nature of time embarks on a journey to prove that those we love are always connected to us, leading to surprising revelations in this fresh and unique love story.
Sophie Jones is a physics prodigy on track to unlock the secrets of the universe. But when she meets Jake Kristopher during their first week at Yale they instantly feel a deep connection, as if they’ve known each other before. Quickly, they become a couple. Slowly, their love lures Sophie away from school.
When a shocking development forces Sophie into a new reality, she returns to physics to make sense of her world. She grapples with life’s big questions, including how to cope with unexpected change and loss. Inspired by her connection with Jake, Sophie throws herself into her studies, determined to prove that true loves belong together in all realities.
Spanning decades, The Love Proof is an unusual love story about lasting connection, time, and intuition. It explores the course that perfect love can take between imperfect people, and urges us to listen to our hearts rather than our heads.
My Review
I have also read Madeleine Henry’s debut novel – Breathe In, Cash Out – which quickly became a favorite of mine. I was eager to read her second offering, especially because it seemed like such a different storyline than her first. When I initially began reading I got a little worried I wouldn’t be able to keep up with the characters – Sophie Jones is a physics prodigy who even as a young girl understood she was different from those around her. When she meets Jake Kristopher at Yale, her big dreams and aspirations start to slip away as she finally understands what it means to be in love and what could be more important than her work.
Just like with her first novel, The Love Proof is smartly written, an eloquent love story about what it truly means to have connection like Sophie and Jake experience, and the amazing moments and also sacrifices those in love must make. After a few chapters in, I was completely hooked following their journey, and the plot drew up several emotions in me. At one point I comically slapped my forehead while reading because I was so invested – and often frustrated – with both Sophie and Jake, because I wanted them to find their happy endings so deeply. It was fascinating to attempt to understand Sophie’s love of time and perception and see her professional life click into place over the years, and to have a very complex story be delivered in such an engaging way makes this a top read for me.
