About the Book
A psychological suspense novel that is “a mind-bending ride. Just when you think you’ve discovered the truth, a new secret is revealed.” (Wendy Walker, author of All Is Not Forgotten).
“…currently wanted by the police. If you know anything about the suspect’s whereabouts, please call…”
I look up at the TV screen, and my twin brother’s face is splashed across it, life-size.
It’s a shock that makes my breath catch. This is my brother as an adult, my brother who I last saw fifteen years ago after the fire that killed our parents, covered in soot, clutching a lighter in his hand, his knuckles stark white against the dirt and ash.
Everyone always said he’d grow up to be a heartbreaker. But his face has gone gaunt instead. The stubble on his cheeks and chin is patchy, and his eyes look dull and dark.
My first thought is that it’s not him. Not my beautiful brother, the golden boy who everyone loved. Yet, deep down, I’ve always known this would eventually happen.
What did you do this time, Eli? What the hell did you do?
My Review
I was so impressed with Girl Last Seen by Nina Laurin, so I was looking forward to her next offering. What My Sister Knew follows Andrea as she tries to live a normal life, even though her past is now catching up with her. Andrea’s twin brother, Eli, burned their family home down fifteen years ago, killing their parents and leaving Andrea permanently scarred. He’s now out of jail but in the news again, for the brutal slaying of a young woman, and Andrea knows he is really after her. We follow Andrea’s narrative and switch between past and present, understanding the dynamic between the twins and the build up to the night of the fire.
I did enjoy the story, but not quite as much as I expected. It was dark and definitely played mind games with me, but it won’t leave the lasting impact that Girl Last Seen did. If you enjoy psychological thrillers I do think you’ll still like this one, and there are plenty of twists and turns to keep you on your toes while reading. And the ending did give me goosebumps, I’ll say that!
