Beauty Review: Pur Minerals 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Makeup Foundation

I recently finished up my Bare Minerals face powder, and set off to the makeup store (my trusty Ulta) on the hunt. I started a chat with a salesgirl and explained my needs for a new powder. She led me to Pur Minerals, a brand I had not yet heard of. I took a look at the 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Makeup Foundation, and decided to give it a chance. I really have the salesgirl to thank- as she was pretty convincing- and I’m glad. I love this stuff! The foundation is lightweight, makes my skin look instantly better, and even has a SPF-15, which I really try to look for in my face makeup. I also did a shade darker so it gives me a little color when I’m pale in the winter – no tanning beds here! The coverage stays on all day, and I never have to worry about sticking it in my bag when I go out at night. I found a winner!

Beauty Review: Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream

It was the lovely Sara Palacios that first turned my eye on BB Cream, something I actually had not heard of yet at the time. While on a makeup run, I saw Maybelline was having a buy one/get one half off sale, so I grabbed my trusty eyeliner pencil and then saw this nice looking BB Cream next to it. I thought why not – and have not looked back since! This has become a new staple in my makeup bag. Maybelline is one of my favorite cosmetic carries, from their lip gloss to mascara, so I was more than willing to give a new product a try on their line. The BB cream is an “8-in-1 skin perfector” including evening your skin tone, brightening your skin, and hiding imperfections. It did all that for me and I instantly noticed a difference once I applied it. I also like that it is super light weight. I have another moisturizer/cream that feels heavy and I have all but thrown that one away after buying this. I also bought a shade darker so I use it as a bit of a self-tanner as well and I love the results. A new favorite!

Foodie Review: The Skinny Cow

As someone who freely admits I have an addiction to ice cream, I understand eating it 3+ times a week does not bode well for fitting into my wedding dress. I have tried to quit cold turkey…and that was a terrible idea. So instead of trying to ban myself from my favorite treat, I decided to try to give “healthy” ice cream a try. I’m not a huge fan of frozen yogurt, but one company was catching my eye – Skinny Cow. First – hilarious name, fabulous packaging. Best part – the yum factor! I picked up a box of Cookies N Cream truffle bars, and I find these delicious. Sometimes with healthy foods I feel like I am being cheated in quantity, but I was satisfied after I ate these. It wasn’t short on taste either – I loved the chocolate ribbons especially. I plan on buying the chocolate ice cream sandwiches next, and definitely recommend Skinny Cow for a “healthier choice” option!

Boy oh boy! I have definitely let the ball slip on my “baby talk” postings but let me tell you, the past six months have flown by. Ethan will be seven months old after Christmas and I can’t believe it! I will have an update on all of those fun things when that time approaches but for now, I thought I would spend a moment to discuss solids.

Ah! Solids! Yes, it has been such an exciting time in taste testing in our home. But, we have been very lucky that everything has gone so well. Ethan LOVES to eat and has picked up solids so easily. Typically, babies start rice cereal around 4 months but around that time, the FDA released a new study that found arsenic in rice (including baby cereal). So, that kind of threw a wrench in our wheel. At first I decided to just stick with breast milk (yep, nursing is still going very, very well) but slowly, I got a little more brave and began to dabble in a few veggies here and there. I have read numerous books and online articles (yep, I’m that mom) that list tips and suggestions for when your baby starts solids, so we followed the guidelines and got started. We fed him a few bites of the same food for a week to test the waters and then would switch it up the next week, and so on and so forth. At around 5 months we really hit solids pretty head on and started introducing oatmeal cereal (no rice in that one!). We started experimenting with flavors and tastes and I have got to say that my little man loves to eat! His favorites by far are sweet potatoes and bananas. We have steered away from feeding him too many fruits (another tip I’ve read) and have stuck mostly to veggies.

So, at a little over six months, that is what we have been up to food wise. Do any of you moms have any suggestions for me? What types of foods did your baby love at this age?
