Primping and the Opposite Sex

I read an article in a women’s magazine last week that got me thinking. The article was about how women shouldn’t get too comfortable with their boyfriends or husbands. This means not being seen without your makeup on, not letting him see you putting on a face mask, or not letting him watch while you tweeze your eyebrows. You also shouldn’t wear sweatpants, women should try to be sexy when around their men. I’m sorry, am I back in the 1950’s? This article was in a popular women’s mag, and I was pretty disappointed with it. I live with my boyfriend, and there are days that I simply don’t want to put makeup on. If I’m not going anywhere and will just be lounging around the house, who says I need to have a full face on? And at night I often use cleansers or a face mask, and I don’t feel like I need to confine myself to the bathroom when I have these on. If I want to go into the bedroom to pick out my clothes for the next day, I will. I don’t care if the BF sees me. Do I think he thinks I am just naturally beautiful all the time? Um, no. He knows I wear makeup, and he knows I use products to keep my skin from breaking out. This is not a shock to him, nor should it be to any guys. And why the hell can’t I wear sweatpants? He wears sweats or basketball shorts every night, but I have romp around in lingerie every day? I don’t think so. Not only that, but the BF has plucked my eyebrows before, and I have returned the favor. We tried out the Biore pore strips- on our three year anniversary no less- to see if they worked. I don’t feel like I should have to hide parts of my life from my boyfriend just because it shows off another side of me, a side that might not always be pretty or sexy. But that shouldn’t matter. What should matter is that I know he loves me, when I wear fake eyelashes on and when I don’t.
What do you ladies think? Are you afraid to let your man see you without mascara? I think it would be exhausting to try to look and act perfect all the time around the one I love. Isn’t love supposed to be about acceptance and letting you be who you really are? With all this said, I’m not trying to say that I’m completely disgusting around my boyfriend either. I shut the bathroom door when I pee. But I don’t think that not ever being able to primp while he is looking is possible. Especially once we moved in together. I should be able to feel comfortable in my own house, regardless that my roommate happens to be my lover as well. Are you afraid to let your boyfriend or husband see part of your beauty routine? Do you wear silky PJ’s every night? I would love to her any opinions on this subject!

Kim Kardashian Engaged

Kim K finally landed her man. After years of wanting to be married (for a second time) Kim Kardashian said yes to New Jersey Nets forward Kris Humphries, her boyfriend of six months. Kardashian, 30, let People Magazine in on her exciting news, telling them Humphries proposed to her at home in her bedroom, and had rose petals spelling out the words,” WILL YOU MARRY ME?” Kardashian’s mom/manager, Kris Jenner, was in on the surprise, and helped plan an intimate family celebration for later that evening. Kardashian told People, “I didn’t expect this at all. I was in such shock. I never thought it would happen at home, and I never thought now.”
Oh, were you wondering about the ring? Kim seems to be giving little sister Khloe a run for her money. While Khloe’s sparkler from husband (also a NBA player) Lamar Odom, weighs in at 12.5 carats, Kim beats that with, ready for it, a 20.5 carat custom designed Lorraine Schwartz engagement ring. How big will Kourtney’s ring be if she ever gets engaged? I’m not sure I want to know.

On Trend: Lace and Sheer

I have been browsing the racks, both in-store and virtual, the past few weeks searching for my fabulous spring and summer wardrobe additions. Two trends kept popping up: lace and sheer. And I love both! Designers such as Oscar de la Renta and Roberto Cavilla showcased these looks at recent fashion shows, and clothing catalogs like Victoria Secret and Venus have their take on the trend. Dresses, shirts, skirts, and even swimsuits are celebrating the light and feminine style of sheer and lace. If you are looking to add some essentials to your closet, check out a few of my favorite pieces below.

Crunch! Yoga Body Sculpt Review

I am all about saving time, and that extends to my workouts. I knew I was needing to add another Yoga DVD to my collection, but I wanted Yoga with an oomph. I found Crunch Yoga Body Sculpt from Crunch Fitness, a brand that I have tried before and I really loved. I purchased the DVD, which promised to not only give me all the great benefits of yoga, but also tone, sculpt, and strengthen my body. Bethany Lyons, who is an AFAA and Power Yoga certified instructor, leads you through a series of yoga moves combined with sculpting moves, and it all has a very flowing feel towards it. This workout is aimed more at the beginner or intermediate levels, so I found it challenging but too much where I was frustrated. I did learn a few new moves which I enjoyed, and the ending in pigeon for a hip opener was a nice stretch. I will say that if you are a beginner, you might become confused on your breathing. Breathing is huge in yoga, and Bethany never really explains the importance or how to do it, so that would be tough. For me, I’ve been practicing yoga for a few years now so that wasn’t a problem, but I thought that should be pointed out. I also did have trouble keeping my palms together during sun salutations, but that was never a big problem. I usually ended up just separating them anyways. I thought the sculpting sessions for the buns and thighs were tough and I definitely felt it the next morning, which is always a positive sign! Overall, I thought it was a really great DVD if you are looking for some challenge in your yoga routine.

Catherine Middleton a Princess

Kate is a princess. I was one of the many who got up early in the morning to watch Catherine Middleton marry her own Prince Charming- Price William. Kate’s dress had been highly kept under wraps, but it was revealed on Friday morning it is an Alexander McQueen gown designed by Sarah Burton, the label’s creative director. The train was two meters long, and Kate wore a long veil that covered her face as she walked up the aisle. Other highlights of the wedding:
• Kate’s sister and maid of honor, Pippa, looking absolutely stunning in a sleek ivory gown- also an Alexander McQueen.
• Prince William telling Kate she looked beautiful when she finally made it to the altar- I was lip reading.
• Princesses Beatrice and Eugenia and their fashionable fascinators.
• The looks Prince William kept shooting Kate throughout the ceremony. The love was so evident.

The wedding was absolutely beautiful, full of love and romance. Kate was the perfect mixture of a traditional and modern bride, and everything seemingly went off without a hitch. Who else watched the royal wedding? What did you think of Kate’s dress? What was your favorite part of the wedding?

The Truth Behind Trainers?

I heard something pretty disturbing on a radio morning show last week, and it has stuck in my mind since. I decided to make a post out of it, wondering if I could get some of you lovelies to respond. The topic was on personal trainers, and if your trainer flirts with you- or crosses any lines. Callers were phoning in with their stories- from harmless flirting all the way too affairs with their trainers at the gym. But one caller really got my attention. It was a male, who said the owners of the gym that he used to be a personal trainer at encouraged trainers to flirt with their clients. Take their clients out on dates. Even sleep with their clients- all simply to raise the client’s self-esteem. By boosting the self-esteem, clients are feeling better, which they will thank their gym/trainers, and therefore continue their business there and spread positive word of mouth comments. More calls came flooding in after that, with even more horror stories and more trainers calling and confirming that really does happen in gyms.
Say what??? I have never used a personal trainer, I really can’t afford one and I do just fine working out on my own, but say I did. So I would pay money each month, drive to a gym, get all sweaty and sore with a trainer, only to have him hit on me and try to sleep with not because he’s interested at all in me- but because he wants me to keep paying his wages. Anyone else find this disturbing? I reached out to my followers questioning this, and got a few responses. Some ladies said that they did go on dates with their trainers, but the moment they stopped working out with them, they never heard from said trainer again. This actually happened to a close friend of mine about three years back, she assumed her and her trainer were boyfriend/girlfriend, but as soon as she stopped paying her gym dues, the phone calls stopped coming in.
So I have to wonder- how many trainers participate in this type of disgusting activity? How many gym owners encourage their workers to act this way? And if you are seeing your personal trainer on a personal level- how do you know that you are the only girl for him? What’s to say his little black book isn’t filled with names of his other clients, and he’s just waiting to seduce them? Have you ever had to turn down your trainer who tries to get too personal with you? I would love to hear any thoughts on the subject!

Beauty Review:Biore Clay Mask

I have been searching for a good mask to use in my beauty regime, as my Mary Kay was all gone and didn’t prefer to re-order it. Of course, I first turned to my trusty Biore pals, since I own almost all their products anyways. While browsing Biore products on Amazon, I found the Biore Clay Mask. It is for shine control, which I do have problems with, and is described as an “oil-absorbing clay mask with skin-refreshing extracts” that “absorbs dirt, oil and shine.” It also promises to leave “skin tingly-cool and naturally matte.”
This four ounce bottle only cost $2.99, which I couldn’t believe, and I quickly snatched it up- or placed it in my virtual shopping cart. I have used the mask twice so far, and have had great results. The green mask is easy to apply to the face, and I leave it on for about eight minutes while it hardens. It was easier than other masks that I have tried to take off, instead of rubbing vigorously at my skin, I simply dampened a washcloth and wiped off smoothly. That was probably my favorite part. My skin did feel tingly cool afterwards, and have noticed a definite cut down on the shine- which is great because I am not using my oil blotting sheets as much! One off thing though that I will point out- this item is not on Biore’s website. I have no idea why, because you can buy it on Amazon or other sites such as Overstock.com, but I couldn’t figure out why it wasn’t on Biore.com. But I would definitely recommend this product if you are looking for a good mask and need help with shine.

Health Tidbit: Breast Cancer Genes

As genetic testing is becoming more popular, there is an increased number of individuals that need to make the decision to go through the testing process. Because genetic testing can be highly expensive and a positive test can increase stress, it is important to examine all reasons why or why not you want to be tested. If there are several members of your close family (parent, sibling, grandparent) that have a disease such as breast cancer, it can be beneficial to be tested to see if you carry a BRCA gene. The March issue of Cosmopolitan Magazine touched one an important topic when it comes to breast cancer. Cosmo uncovered a scary fact- according to a study done in the Lancet Oncology journal, “doctors are five times less likely to refer women with a paternal history of the disease to a genetic counselor than they are those who had it on their mom’s side.” Because both mother and father have a fifty percent chance of passing on the gene, it is important to tell your doctor if anyone in your family had the disease.
