When I rate books, I rarely give a five. A five star book to me is one I won’t ever forget, one so great I would read again in a heartbeat. That is how I feel about this novel. I can’t get the.story out of my head. At work this past week it was all I could think about, I couldn’t wait to get home and read!
Charlie’s life isn’t full of love. Her Mom is dying of cancer, her best friend was taken from her in a car accident and her idea of a relationship is based off of intimacy. She refuses to let anyone in. When her mother passes on, she is left with no one but herself, her art, and a guy whose love she can’t return. But no matter what she does, her life is still shadowed.
She accepts a job at a mansion and it’s anything but normal. Her job is to please people, be it sexual or just being conversation. This take place in a dark room with mirrored floors, with one explicit rule… her and her customer must wear masks at all times.
The story line becomes darker and darker. “Cee” as her customers call her, becomes deeply involved with her art and soon realizes her past is very much becoming her future.
In the second book, it picks up right where it leaves off. I was so happy there was a second book and I couldn’t get enough. Charlie and Cameron’s relationship gets more intense while another character comes in and creates a huge twist.
What I love about Marni Mann’s character’s is that she has this amazing ability to make them into people who could be in your own inner circle. I felt like Charlie could be a friend of mine. To me, that’s a huge part of fantastic writing. … The ability to make characters real enough that you could pick them out of the story and place them right in your life.
The relationship between Cameron and Charlie is enough to make your toes curl. And yet, I could not get enough of Dallas either. I am obsessed with this story line, it couldn’t be any more perfect.
This series is not for the weary. It is intimate….and dark. This story will consume your mind.
5 stars for both.
