Lasik Surgery: The Day is Here!

Lasik is paid for, forms are signed, contacts have been out, no makeup is on, fiancé is by my side…and I’m ready for Lasik surgery! I was up hours before necessary the day of my surgery appointment, filled with nerves. I couldn’t believe I was actually going to let someone operate on my eyes. My eyes! I’m an author, editor, blogger, reader…I need my eyes! What if something goes wrong? What if I go blind? What if I’m worse off? I paced around the kitchen while Mitch ate breakfast, then dragged my feet to the car, very hesitant in my huge decision to go under the…laser. But I eventually got up, in the car, and before I knew it…was at LasikPlus.

It took me longer to sign all the paperwork, go over my eye drop schedule, and be prepped for surgery than the actual surgery itself. The amount of eye drops you have to put in each day is extreme. I’m talking around 70 per day the first few days following surgery. Then it dropped to in the 40’s, then 20’s, until I was just using lubricating eye drops when dry eye began to bother me. I actually wrote down the time each drop was needed on a sheet of paper each day, because it was literally every 5-10 minutes that I would need one, er two, and I had 3-4 separate drops that I needed to take. No one ever mentioned eye drops when they talked about their Lasik experience. It’s all I can talk about, and will chat more next week on that as well!

After the paperwork and prep was complete, Mitch and I were taken into a small room just outside the operating room. I met my doctor, and she quickly put numbing drops in my eyes, then proceeded to draw on my eyes – like instantaneously after the drops. She was marking the center of my eyes for the laser, but it freaked me out that a marker was on my eye. Those numbing drops really do working within seconds! After that, I was taken into the operating room, with Mitch outside the room watching the entire surgery through a TV – quite an experience for him!

Check back next week for the surgery experience!

You’re so brave! That’s one thing I’m terrified of doing! I loved this! I can’t wait to read more next week!
