winter hopesI received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

Winter Hopes, by Jennifer Gracen, is the sequel to her novel Autumn Getaway. In Autumn Getaway, we left off with newly divorced, mother of a special needs child, Lydia Powell; deciding to take a chance on the rich, graphic designer magnate, Sam Forrester. The two had met at a friend’s weekend wedding, and have made a commitment to attempt at a long distance relationship. In Winter Hopes, not only do the two struggle with individual problems, but also find themselves trying to pursue this relationship while everyone they know is discouraging them. For Sam his brother, friends, and grandfather all see it as a relationship that will only end in more pain. For Lydia, her friends and family are worried that she may be setting herself up for more heartbreak. Will Lydia and Sam be able to turn a weekend romance into something more?

Unlike Autumn Getaway, Winter Hopes is not a piece that can stand alone, but strongly depends on the previous piece, and ends abruptly with a cliffhanger. Leaving a lot of loose strings for the reader to think upon as they wait for spring…Spring Shadows (book three) that is.

This book focuses more on Lydia’s life than Sam’s and consists mostly of her character development. We get a better view into the relationship with her ex-husband, sister, and parents and how they all contribute to the positives and problems of her personality. One also receives a better view into the everyday life of trying to raise a child with special needs.

Along with that we get a honest view into the things that couples face during a long-distance relationship. The temptations, the strain, monetary complications, the fragility, and the constant comments from friends and family that you are doomed for failure.

If you enjoyed Autumn Getaway, than you will definitely love the sequel and happily await its third installment.
